Liberals are winning because they are willing to truly fight and not just sit and grouse on the internet like most conservatives nowadays. Even now leftwing focus groups and activists are continuing to actively infiltrate institutions, strategizing, and conducting research, and applying pressure on prominent figures to further their goals. Liberals have mastered the art of truly working toward and not just talking about their political goals on a universal scale. Conservative attempts to do the same are rare, clumsy, topheavy, and halfhearted. Conservative grassroots are dead after briefly flickering to life for the tea party and mostly focus on going after dirty tv shows. The conservative internet presence is a joke compared to the scale and reach of its leftwing counterpart. Rightwingers somehow managed to convince themselves sitting around getting angrier and angrier over ever bigger outrages is going to do anything. They think being able to simply show some random internet liberal how his ideas are becoming more and more ridiculous means anything by itself. Worse still, they almost always agree to play by a variety of liberal groundrules and assumptions in their arguments. Winning unfortunately is not simply a matter of who’s right or wrong. Notice how the leftists most effective moves such as taking over the schools and corporations and turning the media into its mouthpiece have nothing to do with who has the correct position. Conservatives believe politics is a debate won by showing the other side the superiority of your argument. Leftists understand its an all out psychological war.
Neither could Harding, Coolidge, or Eisenhower. So much for normalcy. Someday the Third Left (New New Left or OWS Left) will be regarded as hopelessly conservative, since they’ll oppose the weekly sacrifices to Moloch and will defend marriage as an agreement between two or more people. These throwbacks will be in favor of having police, money, and medical technology...
By your timeframe, yep, he killed it dead.
Is it still dead? Back to you ...
Yes. And the only remedy will be a peaceful secession.
We had a small scandal, by American standards, called the Sponsorship Scandal. In this scandal, the Liberal party overpaid for government advertising and the companies profiting funneled some of the money back to the Liberal party during elections.
The Conservative party was able to capitalize on it by running some very effective ads using various MPs and other well-known party members being quoted saying things that indicated just how corrupt they were.
One of the more well-known ads was David Dingwall, who was testifying in court over his payment package. He was quoted as saying that, “I’m entitled to my entitlements.” The conservatives ran that ad over and over.
It was a good ad.
I hope all those morons in that picture are really feeling the pain of being a part of hope and change.
The liberal party and the PC’s, a less liberal party, held the reins for about 30 years.
Politics are like a ratchet. It only goes left. The most we can hope for is a pause for a few years before it goes more left. The only way to get a reset to the right, is a revolution and this country will never risk giving up it’s comfortable lifestyle to take back our God given rights and freedom from an overbearing, illegal government.
As for the country lurching to the left, my point of view is that the trajectory is to the left, and until there is an existential reckoning (probably financial), will continue generally on that path, Reagan's and Cruz's notwithstanding.
Many many people disagree with my point of view, and seeing as how it's a speculative point about the future, there is plenty of probability of it being incorrect.
I agree. We are most likely truly witnessing the end of our Republic.
How do you restore a Republic when there are at least 70M anti-English, anti-Americans third worlders that infest all corners of the lower 48?
The purely evil left has succeeded in destroying our Republic.
I think the most likely reality is a decades long decline into a decaying third world sewer.
That's it in a nutshell.
Thomas Jefferson was so prescient when he stated,
The natural progress of things is for liberty to yield, and government to gain ground." - Thomas Jefferson to Edward Carrington, Paris, May 27, 1788
I believed he lowered the top bracket to 28%?
“Question: “Is America’s Leftward Lurch Permanent?”
I also think “Yes”. However, only in that it did happen and that the history of it is permanent.
It’s only permanent if we allow amnesty. Then the leftists have an electoral lock.
RE: Question: “Is America’s Leftward Lurch Permanent?”
Probably. Once entitlements like ObamaCare, Social Security and Medicare get big enough, there will be too many people dependent on government. They’ll never vote to remove a program upon which they depend. Soon enough, the debt ridden country will sink like a stone.
I don’t think America is lurching leftward; I do think the Democrat leadership has already lurched far-leftward, however.
I’m optimistic that the leadership of Pelosi, Reid, and Obama has turned off many traditional Democrat voters and that the 2014 election will be a harbinger of the 2016 election.
If you talk to friends and neighbors, people are just plain fed up with President Obama and the way things are going. If that remains the case in November 2016, the voters, even many traditional Democrat voters, will, I think, vote for a change of leadership. And Hillary won’t represent that change.
The question then becomes how many traditional Democrat voters will take the leap with the leadership the next time we go to the polls. It’s hard to believe that many Democrats who lead otherwise what are essentially conservative lives (going to church, hunting, hard-working) will follow the current leadership and align with their gay marriage, anti-Christian, gun-grabbing, indefinite-unemployment-compensation, leanings.
While it will take a good communicator for a GOP Presidential candidate, I think the message almost writes itself.
Nothing is permanent.
Precisely, very important point.
