Major attacks on the U.S. power grid system are “increasing,” with hackers stepping up efforts to penetrate critical systems and to implant malicious software that could compromise the power grid and result in a nationwide crisis, according to a government report.
While experts have long signaled that the U.S. power grid and related systems are vulnerable to physical attacks by terrorists and other individuals, the U.S. government is now warning that sensitive computer systems that maintain the grid are increasingly being attacked, according to a Congressional Research Service (CRS) report that was not made public until the Federation of American Scientists (FAS) disclosed it this month.
The report warns that hackers potentially affiliated with terrorist groups or rogue nations have the ability to insert harmful malware into the internal systems governing the U.S. grid, which increasingly are being hooked into the Internet.

After hurricane Wilma, I had to get the neighbor guys to help me kill the keg in the kegerator before it went bad too.
That wouldn’t have happened WITH electricity.
It was an interesting 2.5 days w/o power. However, right across the street was out for 2 weeks. I had extension chords going across the street to two houses. One was an old lady. The other had an ext chord from her neighbor behind her also.
Was interesting.
Initially I FREAKED THE H311 out after a giant tree was on my house. But then I heard a chainsaw, w/o thinking, just ran out and started to help. Eventually they cut up the tree on my house w/o me even asking. It was a bleak morning waking up to a 15 y/o black olive tree on your house. I don’t have a chainsaw. Was quite an experience.

I suggest WE should focus on OUR recovery as it appears our electric grid “owners” won't survive a planned attack. If they aren't prepared for a sophisticated attack, they surely aren't prepared to recover from it.
I wonder if the owners of power companies have prepared to save themselves and their families. I think they have - they would have to be the biggest dummies on earth if they haven't.
And, don't forget, we have paid for the finest survival location in the world, stacked with the finest water and food and security and hospital with surgeon on call. We have provided that for Obama and family.
All of you are as important, really, more important, than Obama. Because you are important, prepare to survive when there is no power.

For $3k I could have a cool one living on the side of the house powered by the gas that already comes here.
Would have like a 750cc motorcycle engine in it, autostart every month for test etc. Real nice, could power the whole house, ac and all. Just don’t have that kind of money.
And the portable ones make you a target around here.
So I have batteries and solar panels and God-forbid, DC fans.
Could probably borrow a gen from Dad. But shlocking the gas back and forth and no place to store gas is another issue. Takes min 3gal/day depending on size of gen and needs.
Just to sleep you would need a window box in your bedroom to run at night.

Those of us who are preppers on FR would not take pleasure from good people dying due to no power. You don't care if people lose their water and food and fuel. I don't think you fit in with most preppers here - most of us are Christians and wouldn't give cheers if old people, children, handicapped, and good adults, died.
I worry about the Obama administration plotting this and blaming terrorism. That way they can "crack down" on gun owners, Christians and conservatives, and, along with Jade Helm, they'll have forces to make THAT happen on t-1.
Sounds tin foil, and I usually take conspiracy theories with a huge lump of salt, but ValJar, Van Jones, Cloward-Piven , etc., along with Master Soros pumping in cash while Puppet-in-Chief Barack race-baits all year and constantly stirs up the enraged peeps has got me worried...
We also have natural gas also but already had a generator. Can’t hide the noise and lights from your neighbors.
Learned a lesson during the last prolonged outage that even if a gas station is open for business their credit card machines don’t necessarily work. Had to use this archaic stuff called cash.
One of our neighbors works for a company that sells and installs generators - says orders for whole house generators are better than they have ever been and they are currently booked for new installations until late August. Looks like BO is responsible for a boom in another sector of the economy.

3/4 in Natural gas line run to generator.
Poured concrete slab w/anchor bolts to secure it.

It runs my entire house including central air.

The grid will go down. Its just a matter of what moment in time it happens. If you are not looking into an alternative power system then at some point you will be living a miserable existence.
Keep plenty of gas on hand for that generator. Gas station pumps need electricity. And keep it real quiet, and locked down with heavy chain and lock.
I wonder about steam (converted gas engine) power generators. Wood and water.

That was my first thought as well. Anytime "the gov't warns" about anything...means they already have something up their sleeves.
I've watched all the deflection, blame games and fake crisis' swirl around their attempts to put up smoke screens to mask every discovered act of corruption the past several years. They fool no one but themselves and the willfully ignorant. God help us all.
