The Confederate Battle Flag represents racism.... I don't think so.

The Confederate Battle Flag represents racism.... I don't think so. I for one know the history and I'm from the North and married to an Alabama girl for the last 36 years. The red, white and blue stand for the same as our US flag. Red= valor, blue= justice and white for purity. The stars are the 13 original colonies. Not far from ours today. The difference lies in the interpretation. First it was never a state flag. It was designed as a battle flag for the southern states. The X is the main difference. It represents the south wanting out of the Union after the northern aggression to push their laws on the south. It was the succession movement which is what lead to the civil war. It never had or represented race or racism, slavery or even white supremacy that some believe it did. Simply their wanting to leave the union... Please do your own research. People need to actually read a history book! Something that teachers do not teach and politicians with hidden agendas continue to destroy historic documents so they can pass their agendas. Which is continuing to enslave the people by taking away our ability to be free people. What I mean by that, they use our tax dollars to live like royalty, They love big government because they can hide from accountability. Meanwhile they do everything possible to keep us from gaining financial security. IRS, Taxes, USDA, FDA, EPA, and every government agency is like a leech and sucking every dollar out of our wallets. You want to abolish something- get rid of the government control that is in our lives. They are not allowing the people to be free. Stop voting for these politicians that vote for their buddies and making themselves millionaires while screwing the people.

We need people for the people. We need to stop allowing these people to live off our hard work.

Quote from James Cone:

"Black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy. What we need is the divine love as expressed in Black Power, which is the power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal".

SEAN HANNITY: But Reverend Jeremiah Wright is not backing down and has not for years and in his strong stance on the teaching of black liberation theology is nothing new. He had the same things to say last spring when he appeared on "Hannity & Colmes:"

WRIGHT: If you're not going to talk about theology in context, if you're not going to talk about liberation theology that came out of the '60s, systematized black liberation theology that started with Jim Cone in 1968 and the writings of Cone and the writings of Dwight Hopkins and the writings of womynist theologians and Asian theologians and Hispanic theologians, then you can't talk about the black value system.

HANNITY: But I'm a — reverend

WRIGHT: Do you know liberation theology, sir?

They don’t want to see it & hear it, but as long as they’re in our faces & trying to lie about us & destroy the South, we need to keep putting the truth out there for everyone to see.

It’s a sin to bear false witness (like they care).

God bless this man. He is a truth teller.

I'm adamantly opposed to the current ethnic cleansing of Confederate symbolism, but if the South had not seceded the Civil War would never have happened. And they didn't secede because Lincoln was going to "push" anything onto them, because he wasn't and they knew it. They essentially seceded because a Republican was elected to the Presidency.

That was one of the most fateful decisions in American history. Without the secession there would have been no war and no results of that war, whether good (emancipation) or bad (centralization).

And by the way, the same people who wanted to interfere with the South and end slavery are the ones who wanted to outlaw alcoholic beverages everywhere in the country . . . a position most conservative Southerners hold to to this day.

“They essentially seceded because a Republican was elected to the Presidency. “

Once again, seriously, read a book. Lincoln had nothing to do with their leaving the union. Nothing. Whatever they taught you in public school was nothing but liberal lies.

Lincoln in his first inaugural address begged the South not to leave because he didn't have the slightest intention to interfere with them, and neither did the Republican party. The Republican party was a single issue party based on non-extensionism, not abolitionism (though abolitionists were certainly part of the coalition).

I remind you that the South was originally pro-French Revolution and pro-free thought (Jefferson, Madison, etc.) while the original conservatives were northern merchant Federalists. And btw, George Washington was a Federalist (he signed the "unconstitutional" First Bank of the United States into law).

The fact that the federal government has become a nihilistic monstrosity does not, believe it or not, mean that Jeff Davis and Bobby Lee were right to secede in their day on those issues. Nor does the fact that they were wrong in their day mean that secession can never be the right thing to do.

I sympathize with Southerners who are being told their ancestors were "nazis" because they fought for the Confederacy. I am the descendant of Southern Unionist Republicans and I resent being told that my ancestors were "Communists" because they fought against the Confederacy, as Southerners from every seceded state except South Carolina did.

There is such a thing as "political correctness" on the Right as well as the Left, and I stand by my ancestors just as other FReepers stand by theirs.

Some of you are heading to identifying G-d A-mighty with a particular culture/civilization/ethnic group, implying that there is a different and equally valid "gxd" for each people and each culture. This is henotheism, and it is what "palaeconservatives" believe (this makes them pagans). G-d is universal and His Laws are binding on all of us. The only nation singled out and separated is the Jewish People because they perform the function of the priestly nation amongst all the other nations.

blah, blah, freaking blah. All that blather didn’t add up to your ignorant comment that the South seceded because Lincoln was elected.

That is exactly why it seceded (the first seven states, anyway).

Thank you for your oh-so-respectful attitude towards a fellow fighter for the same cause.

What a good Republican you are--since we all know that it's duty of the Republican party to defend the Confederacy. I'm sure Ben Wade and you would go to town on these liberal "RINOS."

Its a good idea to read the “Declarations of the Immediate Causes Which Induce and Justify the Secession” of the states of South Carolina, Georgia, Mississippi, Texas, and Virginia. Those states spelled out in great detail exactly why they left the federal union.

Here’s a brief excerpt from Mississippi’s declaration.

A Declaration of the Immediate Causes which Induce and Justify the Secession of the State of Mississippi from the Federal Union.

In the momentous step which our State has taken of dissolving its connection with the government of which we so long formed a part, it is but just that we should declare the prominent reasons which have induced our course.

Our position is thoroughly identified with the institution of slavery— the greatest material interest of the world. Its labor supplies the product which constitutes by far the largest and most important portions of commerce of the earth. These products are peculiar to the climate verging on the tropical regions, and by an imperious law of nature, none but the black race can bear exposure to the tropical sun. These products have become necessities of the world, and a blow at slavery is a blow at commerce and civilization. That blow has been long aimed at the institution, and was at the point of reaching its consummation. There was no choice left us but submission to the mandates of abolition, or a dissolution of the Union, whose principles had been subverted to work out our ruin. That we do not overstate the dangers to our institution, a reference to a few facts will sufficiently prove.

The hostility to this institution commenced before the adoption of the Constitution, and was manifested in the well-known Ordinance of 1787, in regard to the Northwestern Territory.

The feeling increased, until, in 1819-20, it deprived the South of more than half the vast territory acquired from France.

The same hostility dismembered Texas and seized upon all the territory acquired from Mexico.

It has grown until it denies the right of property in slaves, and refuses protection to that right on the high seas, in the Territories, and wherever the government of the United States had jurisdiction.

It refuses the admission of new slave States into the Union, and seeks to extinguish it by confining it within its present limits, denying the power of expansion.

It tramples the original equality of the South under foot.

It has nullified the Fugitive Slave Law in almost every free State in the Union, and has utterly broken the compact which our fathers pledged their faith to maintain.

It advocates negro equality, socially and politically, and promotes insurrection and incendiarism in our midst.

Well written? What the hell is a succession movement?

So it was just coincidence that they started seceding after he was elected?

If you think coincidence makes for fact I guess you also believe in consensus makes for science and global warming is real because “everything knows it”?

In an earlier post you said, "Read a book. Lincoln had nothing to do with their leaving the union. Nothing." So can you point me to a book that gives the real reason?
