Repairing the ObamaCare Wreckage
Wall Street Journal ^ | June 28, 2015 | By Scott W. Atlas

Posted on 06/29/2015 8:22:57 AM PDT by Brad from Tennessee

Despite the Supreme Court decision to uphold the subsidies for private insurance in King v. Burwell, the fundamental problems with the Affordable Care Act remain. Ironically, it is the growing government centralization of health insurance at the expense of private insurance that must be addressed.

The 107 million people on Medicaid or Medicare in 2013 will increase to 135 million by 2018, a growth rate tripling that of private insurance, according to projections by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. At the same time, private health-care insurance premiums are expected to skyrocket in 2016, many by more than 30%.

This will not improve American health care. Private insurance is superior for both access and quality of care. Reforms should therefore be focused on how to maximize the availability and affordability of private insurance for everyone, regardless of income or employment, rather than put more people into government insurance while causing private insurance to become unaffordable to all but the affluent.

Why is private health insurance so important? Insurance without access to medical care is a sham. And that is where the country is heading. According to a 2014 Merritt Hawkins survey, 55% of doctors in major metropolitan areas refuse new Medicaid patients. The harsh reality awaiting low-income Americans is dwindling access to quality doctors, hospitals and health care. . .

Thanks, I guess that Cruz is the only one with the conjures to take a stand.

It won’t be the GOP that kicks people off Medicare/Medicaid. It’ll be the doctors that refuse to take those people on as patients.

The only thing that can happen to resolve that is FORCE, using the power of governmental coercion, doctors to take on such patients.

If Doctors currently in practice are so forced, even to the point of not being allowed to retire, the NEXT generation of doctors will choose to go to law school ...

“We are going to “single payer” because” that is PRECISELY what the government intended to happen when Medicare was first forced upon us in 1966!

Single payer has been the plan since well before then, BTW.

Thanks, I am in remission for CLL (leukemia) and I was just Diagnosed with something called MDS, Myelodysplastic Syndrome (called Pre Leukemia which they say cam morph into Acute Leukemia).

It was most likely caused by the Chemmo Drugs used to fight the CLL over the past nine Years. That came out of left field, but they are just monitoring it right now.

Robin Roberts of Good Morning America had it and had to have a Bone Marrow Transplant which worked out for her.
Her Sister was a Match.

Of course, Life gets even more interesting. Had to get a Chest X-Ray because my Doctor wanted to be sure the Bronchitus I’ve been battling for the past six weeks didn’t turn into Pneumonia.

Well, they saw something on the X-Ray, so I just had a CT Scan. Yep, there is a Nodule in my Lung. Going to a Specialist later this week to see what he thinks. The fun never ends, that’s for sure.

Before anyone asks, I never Smoked, Drank or did Drugs.

Oh yeah, another surprise in the Mail today. My Insurance is denying $12,000 in Claims for some Shots I received after Chemo to keep my White Count up. At the time they were approved, now they are saying the Paperwork wasn’t Processed in time. Time for more Phone Calls, what fun.

Sorry to drone on, just wanted to clarify my situation. The point of my earlier Post is very simple, We Are Suckers.

I appreciate the concern of all who Replied. Thank you.

“Single payer has been the plan since well before then, BTW.”

Whatever the reason, it’s hard to argue over the ultimate conclusion.

Maybe I’m just fed up, but I see no way out.

Sorry to say it.. but it was designed to DO exactly what is happening to you.

Under Obunga's socialism everyone will be broke, or close to it, counting on the Government to take care of them.

America will soon be "Gone with the Wind."

What we should be thinking about is not how we’re going to fight obamacare, but how we’ll get around it.

I think we can do both. Qualifying for a hardship exemption is one way to get around it. It really comes down to knowing what the rules are how to take advantage of them. People that receive insurance through their employer also need to know the rules, because it could effect them if they lose their coverage. An option for someone at my age (upper 50's) might be to reduce income to become eligible for subsidies. Another option would be to raise or lower income to get into the doughnut hole above the 400% poverty level. If insurance costs more than 8% of income then a hardship is granted. You can then go without or purchase a catastrophic policy.

Once we all figure out how to get on the Public Dole, who will pay for it?

An America full of Andy Capps cannot survive!

I agree and those are exactly the sorts of information that should be available. We should be able to outline solutions, or at least the start of a solution. You know, the thing that electoral politics never provides, even if we “win.”

One of the problems is there are only ~10 million Americans buying their own insurance outright. They are paying 1ST class rates for economy service. Everybody else is subsidized in one form or another. People that get coverage through there employer may know something is up, but don’t have a full grasp of the situation yet. Those people need to read the fine print as well. Besides some modest increases in our premiums, out of network deductibles skyrocketed to $6K. This in the benefits literature, but I doubt many have read it..

LIEberals are spendthrifts with OUR TAX money!

LIEberals are skinflints with THEIR money!

As I ponder on it, they do spend a lot of their money getting themselves and their LIEberal thugs elected to political office, though.

Well then the goal should be to assist the 10 million. Also, even if something is subsidized it doesn’t mean its worth having. That is going to be the case for a lot folks on deathcare.

Dems may have set the subsidy bar to low from a tactical stand point. You could have a couple in their mid 50s making a combined salary of $32 per hour with no benefits having to pay full fare. I suspect that may go fairly deep into the Dem base, especially in big cities.

I’d like to see it repealed, but I doubt it will happen. They might get rid of some of the worse aspects of it like death panels, but I think most of it is here to stay. Hope I am wrong..

I have not seen much publicity on the subject, but IIRC, the Republicans HAVE offered an alternative.

I’ll see if I can find out more about it.

I found it!

The House version, introduced by Rep. Tom Price, is H.R. 2300; http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/D?d114:1:./temp/~bdCcpa:@@@L&summ2=m&|/home/LegislativeData.php|

The Senate version, introduced by Senator Cruz, is S. 647; http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d114:SN00647:@@@L&summ2=m&|/home/LegislativeData.php|

I have not read either of them.
