Ted Cruz: ‘Voters Would Be Astonished’ To Know What GOP Senators Say And Do In Private

In the introduction to this book, Cruz specifically criticizes the Republican leadership in the Senate for how they dealt with the issue of raising the debt ceiling in early 2014.

“For months leading up to this moment, Republican leaders had pledged to their constituents that when it came time to raise the federal debt limit, they would demand meaningful spending reforms from this president,” Cruz wrote. “Rest assured, we were told, the Republicans would insist on it!”

But that wasn’t going to work, so the GOP leadership came up with another idea.

“For decades, the ordinary procedure in the Senate has been that in order to move to proceed to take up a debt ceiling increase, 60 senators must vote in favor of the motion,” he said.

Cruz said the leadership asked senators to agree to a 50-vote threshold for the debt ceiling legislation.

The GOP leadership, Cruz writes, wanted Republicans to agree to this so “Democrats would then have the votes to raise the debt ceiling on their own. We could all vote no. This way, we could return home and tell the voters that we had opposed raising the debt ceiling, right after consenting to let it happen.”

“Most senators seemed perfectly fine with the leadership’s proposal,” Cruz writes. “There were nods and murmurs of assent.”

Cruz said that for him, it “was too much.”

“I raised my hand and said, ‘There’s no universe in which I can consent to that.’”

This is exactly what they do. It’s calculated.

Then they can have conservative voting records and good scores in conservative indexes and things like that.

Lowering taxes on the rich was one thing I vigorously supported in the past. Now, It appears it was the worst thing we could do. When the country club GOPE and their rich lib gentry friends who run the parties don't have to pay large taxes this is what happens. They only try to cut spending when they have to pay for it. The GOP used to be the party of big government untilaboutg the second decade in the 20th century. What happened to cause that to change? We had an amendment to begin and national income tax, that is what happened. And lo, when they started to have to pay for big government they changed their minds. So to when we lowered taxes thirty years ago It had an opposite effect causing them to want to spend.

I’ll bet we wouldn’t. And no, I don’t want to know, either. Disgusted enough.

No, I would not be surprised. I am just surprised that I let them fool me for so long.

Cruz isn’t going to name names or provide substantive examples. Ok, maybe he will when he retired from politics and write his memoirs. Which will hopefully be a long time from now.

What Cruz is doing here is letting all the GOP Senators know that he has a Samson Option in his back pocket. He knows where bodies are buried and if his fellow GOP Senators don’t start to play nice, he has the ability to make life really suck for them.

I’m guessing that McCain and Graham get real quiet with the “Wackobird” stuff going forward ...

THIS is how republicans maintain their artificially high conservative ratings, through tricks like this, and cloture, etc., and all to hoodwink their voters.

Please remember this the next time you hear some GOPe moron sycophant parrot on Free Republic how Republican candidate X has a "99% conservative rating" on such-and-such's chart.

His commandment referred to Republicans.

In the spiritual realm of manipulation, Republicans are just as evil as the demonic Dems.

Ted Cruz: 'Voters Would Be Astonished' To Know What GOP Senators Say And Do In Private

Rand Paul On Shutdown: "Even Though It Appeared I Was Participating In It, It Was A Dumb Idea"
I said throughout the whole battle that shutting down the government was a dumb idea. Even though it did appear as if I was participating in it, I said it was a dumb idea. And the reason I voted for it, though, is that it's a conundrum. Here's the conundrum. We have a $17 trillion debt and people at home tell me you can't give the president a blank check. We just can't keep raising the debt ceiling without conditions. So unconditionally raising the debt ceiling, nobody at home wants me to vote for that and I can't vote for that. But the conundrum is if I don't we do approach these deadlines. So there is an impasse. In 2011, though, we had this impasse and the president did negotiate. We got the sequester. If we were to extend the sequester from discretionary spending to all the entitlements we would actually fix our problem within a few years.

I normally don’t buy books from politicians, especially ones running for the presidency, but I may have to make an exception in this case.

I think a lot of us on FR have figured out that much of what the GOP does is nothing more than theater produced to fool the rank and file Republicans they detest, especially Conservatives.

It’s good that Cruz is blowing the whistle.

“Many Senators...murmurs of assent”

Hey, Jack-ass, WHO WERE they?

If You make accusations, name the accused.

Anything less is perpetuating their actions.
