David Limbaugh: Thumbs Down for Justice Roberts
Creators Syndicate ^ | June 30, 2015 | David Limbaugh

Last week's Supreme Court rulings on Obamacare (Burwell) and same-sex marriage (Obergefell) were enormously dispiriting for reasons beyond the substantive issues of socialized medicine and same-sex marriage.

I couldn't be more opposed to socialized medicine, which I believe is the endgame of Obamacare, and I am opposed to the societal sanctioning of same-sex marriage, but those are not my greatest concerns with these two rulings.

In both cases, the court flouted the Constitution, the rule of law, the English language and the truth itself. People who appreciate the unique American system of government and those who value truth itself should be very concerned.

First, let's briefly consider the Obamacare ruling. Though I was beginning to believe it was possible that the court would do the right thing in this case, I didn't allow myself to count on it mainly because of the endless insanity we've witnessed over the past six years.

Mindful of the absurd lengths Justice Roberts went to in upholding Obamacare initially — the verbal contortions he disgracefully engaged in to save this wretched law — why would I assume he would do otherwise with his second bite of the apple? There was a small part of me that was hoping he realized just how severely he had sold his soul on the first decision and would be looking for redemption. But that was always a long shot.

In the first case, he redefined taxes and penalties to justify a result he'd already reached in his mind irrespective of the law, flagrantly breaching his fiduciary duty to the Constitution. We hear that he descended into this sophistry because he believed he had some higher calling to preserve the image of the court.

Doesn’t Justice Roberts realize he will be facing the Ultimate Justice for his actions against the Almighty.

Chief Justice Roberts voted against the Gay Marriage. He voted for the healthcare ruling

Yep, a good majority don’t know who Joe Biden is and I believe it’s due to our leftist educational system.

Judas got his 30 pieces of silver; presumably Roberts got more for his malfeasance this time than previously...

The issue has never been Justice Roberts - he was not a Conservative before he arrived at the Supreme Court.

The issue has ALWAYS been the Republican Presidents who nominate people like Justice Roberts, and the Republican Senators who vote for people like Justice Roberts.

The day the ObamaCare decision came down, I spent an hour on Wikipedia studying all the Supreme Court nominations dating back to Dwight Eisenhower.

I count six nominations by Republican presidents who consistently or frequently voted with the Left Wing on the Supreme Court.

I count just one nomination by a Democrat president - Byron White by John F. Kennedy - who often voted with the Right Wing of the Supreme Court.

Also, our Republican Senators are guilty of putting up zero opposition to hard line Leftist nominations by Democrat Presidents. Time and again, we see the Republican Senate leadership standing in front of microphones explaining how Democrat presidents are entitled to have their Court nominations confirmed.

Democrat Senators have no such political passivity. Time and again, in direct alliance with the MSM, they have torn our Conservative nominations to shreds.

Today's Supreme Court is a perfect reflection of the GOP making almost no attempt to protect the Constitution and the rule of law.

Roberts, always a centrist judge, nominated by Bush Two.

Anthony Kennedy, nominated by Reagan, votes frequently with the Left.

And, the now retired David Souter, nominated by Bush One.

Souter consistently voted with the Left while still on the Court.

Then, breaking with precedent, Souter resigned just two months after a Republican President left office and allowed Obama to nominate the Leftist, Sonia Sotomayor.

I blame ALL of these recent catastrophic Supreme Court decisions on the feeble Leftist sympathizers who have led the Republican Party for decades.

Excellent points. This sounds like a textbook example of when a justice should be impeached . Why are we not organizing to remove Roberts from the bench? There could be no clearer case for impeachment.

It might be easier to just legislatively remove the Court’s jurisdiction in such cases, as the Constitution prescribes.

I think that would be an end run and not placing accountabity where it belongs. The truth is Roberts should no longer be on the court. Many attempts have been made to stop this law legislatively. There is a process for removing a justice from the court and if this does not qualify then nothing ever will.

I was listening to Mark Levin interviewing Hugh Hewitt about Roberts last week, since apparently Hewitt once shared an office with Roberts. I found it interesting that not once, but twice, Hewitt said, "Well, he's always been a 'pretty boy.'"
