EXCLUSIVE: NYT Debunked: Scott Walker’s ‘I’m Not Going Nativist’ Conversation Never Happened
Breitbart ^ | July 3, 2015 | Matthew Boyle

A conversation about immigration between Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and the Heritage Foundation’s Stephen Moore, reported on by the New York Times this week, never happened.

“We have spoken with Stephen Moore and the conversation that was reported did not happen and he will tell you that. I would recommend you reach out to him,” Walker spokeswoman AshLee Strong told Breitbart News on Thursday in response to an article by Jonathan Martin and Maggie Haberman.

On Thursday, the reporters wrote: “Stephen Moore, a conservative scholar at the Heritage Foundation who backs an immigration overhaul, called Mr. Walker’s embrace of a border-security-first approach ‘A lurch to the right and probably something very popular among Iowa conservative voters.’”

“But Mr. Moore also said he was not convinced that Mr. Walker was quite the immigration hawk as he may appear now,” the Times added. “Rather, he called the governor’s positioning ‘a work in progress.’”

Then the newspaper wrote: “Mr. Moore said he had become concerned about Mr. Walker’s stance [on immigration] in recent weeks, but was reassured after a phone call with the Wisconsin governor,” then quoted Moore himself recounting what Walker supposedly said.

“He said, ‘I’m not going nativist; I’m pro-immigration,’” Moore said Gov. Walker said.

But Walker’s presidential campaign insists that conversation never happened, so Breitbart News reached out to Moore for more information.

Moore confirms that there was no phone call between him and Walker. What actually happened, he says, is a bit more murky and confusing—much different from what the Times says happened.

“Here’s what happened, I’m on this group with Larry Kudlow and Art Laffer called the Committee to Unleash Prosperity,” Moore told Breitbart News.

The Times lied?

Will the sun rise tomorrow?

Read the article. It sounds like they are saying, “fake but accurate.” Walker didn’t say it, but he’s not an immigration hawk.

Who are you for?

All I see are negatives for every single candidate. Already gone back 5 pages without a supporting comment.

Uber Leftist site likes the NYT’s piece (of course) - that is, before it came out that it never happened. How much “ink” will they spill (if any) on the truth?

“......The Times article is a horse’s head in Walker’s bed — a warning that the cash isn’t going to flow as freely as he’d like unless he falls into line with the wishes of the fat-cat community......”

You got to watch out for Kudlow. He’s a regular on WMAL in DC, and is definitely pro-amnesty. The nativist talk is coming from him.

If only the lame stream media put .001% of the effort in to investigating Obama as they do everyone else.

Sigh.

Assuming the paper lied, Scott Walker has to come out like he's Trump saying so. It's the only way to get Walker's anti- invasion message out there. Talk about the crimes caused by invaders in his state, and the pain it brings to him.

How about defending Trump on what he said and condemning the boycotts that followed? That would burn all of Scott Walkers bridges to the pro-invasion crowd.

I thought it was telling by how many here, who don't like Walker, jumped into the chamber pot with both feet even though the original lie didn't say anything to warrant it. It never said he was for illegals coming in, just that he supported legal immigration.

I get to insult the intelligence of so many lately and they have nothing but bluster to defend themselves with - having the time of my life having battles of wits with the unarmed.

Do you expect me to believe that the ol' gray lady lied and made up stuff? Nah uh, say it ain't so, Joe.

A lot of advice.

Whose campaign have you been hired to run lately?

There's as much of a chance of that as there was of the KGB investigating Stalin!

The reason these popular liberals are pro-amnesty is to put workers into the economy to replace the unborn that they exterminated.

CW, of course I don't work for any campaign. What I'm saying has validity. Scott Walker gained traction by coming out solidly against illegals being in the US. He's been challenged about that. The challenges can take hold, in light of his previous record on the issue which he has renounced.

The only way to push back is to condemn strongly the crime wave caused by illegals. To do that, he should support Trump in his making it a major issue.

Why do you encourage our candidates to be jerked around by the Left and insist that they respond to every comment made by other candidates?

If this is the norm they will forever be consigned to being led around by the nose.

Let’s see what shakes as things unfold and stop demanding that they all dance the same jig.

The issue of people being in the US illegally is the primary issue for a lot of voters. It isn't being "jerked around" to want a candidate we support to be unequivocal about the issue.

Look at Numbers USA and the support it can generate for a true conservative who supports this value. It's a game-changer, and they're not forgiving in their grading.

“You got to watch out for Kudlow. He’s a regular on WMAL in DC, and is definitely pro-amnesty. The nativist talk is coming from him.”

That is concerning — because what I got out of that story is Kudlow had a long conversation (private meeting) with Walker and came away thinking he was going to be “with him” on immigration. Given Kudlow’s position, I fail to see how this could be consistent with Walker’s recent “evolution” to the Jeff Sessions way of thinking on the issue.

Bottom line is I like Walker and he’s my second choice behind Cruz at this point, but it doesn’t look like he can be fully trusted on the immigration issue.

No, he can't.
