The Obama administration unveiled new rules Wednesday to rid the country of racially segregated neighborhoods by directing cities and towns to set goals for reducing segregation, and then regularly report their progress to the feds.
Communities nationwide will be given a series of questions designed to help them figure out whether racial bias is causing segregated neighborhoods, racial or ethnically concentrated areas of poverty, unequal access to opportunity or disproportionate housing needs in their jurisdiction. They will be required to set goals related to that data and publicly report on their progress every three to five years.
The Department of Housing and Urban Development rule is intended to prod communities to meet fair housing standards established in the Fair Housing Act of 1986, by making previously unavailable or unreliable data accessible to the public, which could then use the data as an impetus for change.
The Fair Housing Act requires the government to not only eliminate racial discrimination in housing, but also to encourage racially integrated neighborhoods.
“This is the most serious effort that HUD has ever undertaken to do that,” HUD Secretary Julian Castro told The Washington Post. “I believe that it’s historic.”
HUD will compile the data into a central database where anyone can look at the mapped data and determine what kinds of changes need to happen in their community. HUD will support communities working to integrate and federal dollars will be on the line.
The rule follows a Supreme Court decision, based on the Fair Housing Act, that any housing policy that disproportionately impacts minorities can be targeted in a lawsuit, regardless of the intent of the policy. It could indirectly force some states to move Section 8 housing to high-income suburbs.

And when middle class, mostly white, but also black and Asian, people move into urban neighborhoods and rehab their houses, they get accused of gentrification.

Unfortunately, if you get too many Section 8 residents in an area, the neighborhood starts to go ghetto.
And when that happens, a vicious cycle is in place, where decent people move away. And then the only people living in the neighborhood are Section 8 people.
All this will do is encourage decent people to move to farther and farther out suburbs, or rural areas. This could cause more and more traffic on highways, as people live so far away from work in the city, but commute to the city from more distant areas.
This could increase liberal angst about global warming with more and more cars driving further and further. Has Obama thought this through, that his policy could increase global warming, which he has called the greatest threat humanity has ever faced, or some such garbage???

I get it! Now some of those people who can afford nice homes will have to surrender their homes to poverty-stricken people. Then the rich people will have to move to the poverty-stricken projects in order to maintain integration, right?

Who's going to require them, what jurisdiction do the Feds have over communities...none, and they can't require anyting...what's going to happen if they don't comply. I've lived in an integrated neighborhood for 27 years. It was integrated when we moved in, and it's still integrated today. Same ratio for years, about 50/50, and lowest crime rate in the city. Nobody required anyone to make our neighborhood integrated, it just happened, and we like it that way.
Sounds about right - Zero and the regressives blatantly and intentionally stir up more racial hostility than we’ve seen in years and THEN order us all to start sharing our neighborhoods with the malcontents and crime lords. Everything these people do is intentional evil all the time. It’s all part of the plan.

So, cities, towns and municipalities who are already
struggling to meet the budget set by current taxation
are going to have to spend more time and people and
money to fulfill these new requirements?

There you go. If you have a “housing policy” immediately rescind it and operate with a free market non-policy. When the Feds send their questionnaire, just state that you have no policy and that they should eat dog feces with a dirty fork and die.
Get a prison. That will skew the census data enough to make your community the poster child for whatever it is that the progressives are locking for. If the government wants integration, they should concentrate on programs which have segregation as the objective. Federal programs never work: war on poverty, war on drugs, department of education. All the government achieves is to create federal jobs for otherwise unemployable college graduates as a sort of middle class welfare system for its chosen ones.
