Men like them literally save the world.

Now that Obama has degraded and destroyed our military we are in sorry shape.

My dad who passed away this last May was
a WWII paratrooper w/ the 11th AB. After
fighting in the mountain jungles across the
width of Leyte he volunteered to join a
detail assigned to retrieve the bodies of
fellow troopers KIA and temporarily buried
at the various battle locations and take them
to Ormoc Bay where the division ended their
Leyte campaign. They had a detailed map.

The article did not indicate whether or not the
recovered Marines had been temporarily buried or
not found at all after the battle. I would sure
like to find out what happened. Thanks for posting.
I will try to follow this story.

I know a marine that was at Tarawa. He said many of if not most of the Marines were killed by friendly fire.

Seriously? That is a new version of stolen valor. I certainly would like to meet your “marine from Tarawa” and ask a few questions.

This may be about the marines that were buried in temporary graves and with the runway nearby that was enlarged and covered over the graves.I cant believe we would have let that happen but something sure as hell did and it wasn’t pretty.

Men like them literally save the world.

Don't be silly.

Japan couldn't conquer China, they weren't going to conquer the world.

They died to help the U.S. establish dominion over the Pacific in lieu of Europe and the Japanese. Then we got to lose tens of thousands of more Americans fighting in Korea and Vietnam.

The whole thing was a mess. Thompson's Raiders went on a raid and the army decided to send troops to that area. These islands were used as runways. We went without a communications ship. They attacked with the expectation of a tide. There was almost none. They had a lot of Higgins boats . They could not clear the reef. The Jap command was blown up transferring to another bunker. The two waves came across the island and cut it in halt. I had two relatives stitched by machine guns. One was on this island. they both lived long lives.

I suppose you just wanted a few thousand more to die in another surprise attack. So I guess they didnt save anyone by fighting to defeat the Japanese who couldnt conquer the world.

My son is a Marine, so this hits me hard. GOD bless these heroes. My prayers are for them and their loved ones. Rest in peace.

He told me he was on the Indianapolis and it had new oversized propellers put on and that when it turned to the sea they churned up the dead bodies off the sea floor. most of them were drowned never making it to the island.

Many brave Marines who attacked Tarawa were killed wading ashore, their bodies never recovered.
