Whataburger’s policy is entirely reasonable.

I once had a Texan tell me that Whataburger was just as good as In-N-Out, so I went to try it. I learned right then that it’s true that everything in Texas is bigger, especially the tall tales.

“noted that patrons licensed to carry concealed handguns will still be able to do so in Whataburger.”
And how would they know who is carrying if it is concealed? Kinda hard to ban.

"Why do you need to bring a gun into a store where there are kids?" she asked. "We are not in the Wild, Wild West." Actually grandma, you are in the wild west, or worse...

A disgruntled former employee once torched a Whattaburger in Amarillo. The local PD said it did $600,000 of civic improvement.

I pretty much agree with your thoughtful post. In my opinion, most states have it backwards. One should need a permit to open-carry, but no permit to carry concealed.
I have made this argument before. Here's my analogy. The First Amendment gives me the right to possess erotica (dirty pictures that others might reasonably find offensive). But should I have the right to plaster those pictures on a big sign, and then carry that sign around town?

It is. And people need to exercise their own rights to eat elsewhere if they believe in protecting themselves and families.
Or file a crippling lawsuit if ever injured in a crime on their property that being legally armed could have prevented. Posting a no gun rule opens Whatta to additional legal responsibilities for security.

Couldn't the same argument be made against Whataburger that the homosexuals have been making: IT'S THE LAW OF THE LAND.
If a Christian baker can be forced to "follow" the law, then why can't Whataburger be forced to "follow" the law as well?
Is this not a denial of rights....as in the Second Amendment?

But Mary Jones, who was with her 15-year-old grandson, said she was happy that Whataburger took a stand against open carry."Why do you need to bring a gun into a store where there are kids?" she asked. "We are not in the Wild, Wild West."
Sorry to inform you Ms. Jones, but yes, we are...feral savages strike at anytime, anyplace. You would do well to not only get better informed, but prepare yourself as well ma'am.

Sorry Norm, absolute legal nonsense. Supposed vic would have to prove, as a matter of law, that his being armed would have stopped/prevented crime.

He’s explicitly saying that he is fine with you carrying in his store, as long as you do it discreetly and do not alarm his other customers. I do not have a problem with that. I would tend to carry concealed regardless.
If you are carrying openly, then just drape your t-shirt over your gun before entering, and you can uncover after exiting.

An interesting historic view here. They BOTH have a role and a purpose. Open carry was the norm on the frontier. Concealed was considered sneaky and dishonorable.
