Donald Trump: Resistance Leader
The Huffington Post ^ | 07/12/2015 5:32 pm EDT | Bill Schneider

Posted on 07/12/2015 3:52:19 PM PDT by Mariner

There's a reason why Donald Trump is stirring up the Republican race. The Republican Party has become a resistance movement, and Trump is leading the resistance.

What it's resisting is the rise of the New America. That's the coalition of groups that were historically marginalized: immigrants, racial and religious minorities, gays, working women, single mothers, young people and "unchurched" Americans with no religious affiliation.

It's a coalition united by a commitment to diversity and inclusion. And deeply opposed to symbols of exclusion like the Confederate flag, hostility to immigrants and homophobia. The coalition is growing in numbers as the U.S. becomes more racially diverse, women become more independent, gays come out of the closet and more people lose their religion.

The New America came to power with the nation's first African-American President. President Obama's legitimacy is under constant challenge -- most prominently by Donald Trump, who has never given up disputing Obama's legal qualifications to serve.

It's extremely sad that the GOP in Washington has been asleep over the past 6 1/2 years, so the resistance movement's leader (almost by default) is ironically an outsider who had shown little sign of resistance himself until about a month ago.

Good insight.

Look, I'm not a Trump fan. I think he's probably a megalomaniac and certainly not a conservative and I doubt he could win an election and think he's running for fun/attention. But I get why so many people are enthralled. Immigration is the hottest hot button issue, and who's the first one to take it up to the level it deserves? Trump. That's a sad indictment of the GOP "leaders".

Trump kinda reminds me of a milkman here in Illinois named Oberweis who once called social conservatives "The American Taliban", he flip flopped and became the a#1 foe of illegal immigration and some conservatives in this state are still obsessed with the idea of him as Governor or Senator even though he's a tremendous loser and chronic self-serving flip flopper. GOP leaders ignore the scope of the illegals problem and this is what happens. ANYONE who takes it seriously starts looking good to people. And Trump is several thousand times more charismatic than Oberweis.

I forget how this goes and where I heard it but the gist goes something like "When there is a dearth of leadership, people will follow anyone who makes an effort".

Trump—sometimes heroes come from strange places. The Resistence needs a man like Trump—bomblastic—egoist—but organized and confident. Maybe he’s the man on the white horse we need. Yes, he is crass and loud but then so was Sam Adams. But—he may well be just what we need.

Well, it certainly could be true. The left’s been beating their collective heads against the wall over Cruz and Walker support instead of their beloved Bush. What better way to draw in those supporters than take those candidate’s issues to the next level?

I don’t know but it bothers me that he donated so much to Democrats. and it bothers me that this whole thing is so Perot. Wish I wasn’t such a cynic but I am.

Folks are flocking to Trump since for years there has been an empty void with no leadership, at last there is an outspoken, tough, assertive, aggressive get in your face leader who’s tackling problems and being honest, instead of the sissy fag Obummer and associated metrosexuals in the Repub party, all of which have no cojones. The commie muzzie hag Valerie Jarrett and associated deviants are running the whole country into the ground, incessant vile scrubs who are never happy, bipolar, perverted degenerates who lack real testosterone and who are domestic enemies of the Constitution.

Nothing like HuffPo for political agitprop uncluttered by facts.
Mariner: There are many here on FR that agree with the GOPe media infrastructure that Trump is a Democrat plant who is intent upon ensuring Clinton's election. What say ye?
Anyone using the terms "GOPe" and "Uniparty" are Demagogic Party plants.

Big difference in Trump and a "milkman": Trump has made billions, negotiated with top guys, and is unafraid of criticism.

And in a way, the "system" (and I hate that word) has made it impossible for even someone like Cruz to tell it like it is in "non-pol-speak").

For example, I heard Rick Perry on a drive-by today and his border solutions were entirely sensible and probably would be effective. And the public heard "zzzzzzzzzz." He went on about how Mexico was not sending us its worst.

Trump says "They at dumping their worst on us and I'll build a fence." NOT "I'll work with congress and reach across the aisle for a solution." I WILL BUILD A FENCE. Five words that any moron or "low information voter" gets.

I totally disagree with him on Iraq, but then he says, "We should have kept the oil." Do you know how that resonates with non-ideological voters? BOOM. I can hear the guy in the corner bar go "Yeah." Setting aside HOW we keep the oil, can you imagine even Cruz saying something like that? Certainly not any of the Seven Dwarfs.

Obama has put is in a new era of celebrity, where old fashioned experience or even consistency in principles are going to do it. Trump so far is the only one in either party who gets it.

And if the GOPe really want Hillary to win, nominate Jeb.

Saw a news video today. Congress has funded the fence but it is not being built to the standards congress required.

If appropriations have been approved, all Trump needs to do is build the dang thing.

There’s a handful here. If Trump were taking out Cruz and (to a lesser extent) Walker, we might buy into the conspiracy theory.

But he’s nearly taken out Rubio and has Jeb trying to act like an American. If he is a plant, WE NEED MORE PLANTS!!!!

Had a thought. Trump through the years has met with many people from many countries. Is there a source for pictures of him with world leaders?

Reagan was a Democrat too.

After Reagan left the Dems, he spent 20+ years building his conservative credentials before he asked us to elect him president.

Reagan was also a two-term governor of the most populous state in the country.

Which is my point about Trump, if he really wanted to President, he should have tried his hand at being Governor of New York first. If he did a good job there, he’d have the job all sewn up.
