Speaking of the Dodgers, I was only ten but the news of their first game in Los Angeles was bigger than the Russians launching Sputnik.

At the time, the late great Fred Allen announced he had quit smoking & took up chewing instead, since as he put it, “You might fall asleep in bed while smoking and die in a fire. With chewing, the worst thing that can happen is you might drown a midget.”

When my youngest son came home from his first day of kindergarten, he told me that he needed a pair of left handed scissors. I thought someone was trying to pull the old “left handed monkey wrench” trick on us. Then I found out there really is such a thing. Then I tried to use a pair of our scissors with my left hand and they wouldn’t work.

I see this story as just another instance of another group of small-minded people finding a platform from which to grouse about their personal grievances. If the name of this sports team, "Mighty Midgets," was ever intended to demean little people, than the complainers might have a point (albeit a small one); however, I think that their pettiness calls for more for a psychotherapist, than a journalist.
