UN Report: 15,000 Civilians Killed in Iraq in 16 Months

The conflict in Iraq has taken a terrible toll on civilians with nearly 15,000 killed and 30,000 wounded during a 16-month period ending on April 30, by the Islamic State group, Iraqi security forces and others, according to a U.N. report released Monday.

The U.N. mission in Iraq and the U.N. human rights office said in the report that violations of international humanitarian law and gross human rights abuses by the Islamic State group, which controls large swaths of Iraq's north and west, may in some cases amount to war crimes, crimes against humanity and possibly genocide.

Iraq is going through its worst crisis since the 2011 withdrawal of U.S. troops. During the 16-month period, the report said more than 2.8 million people fled their homes and remain displaced in the country, including an estimated 1.3 million children.

“I know some in Washington would like us to start leaving Iraq now. To begin withdrawing before our commanders tell us we’re ready would be dangerous for Iraq, for the region and for the United States. It would mean surrendering the future of Iraq to al-Qaeda. It would mean that we’d be risking mass killings on a horrific scale. It would mean we’d allow the terrorists to establish a safe haven in Iraq to replace the one they lost in Afghanistan. It would mean we’d be increasing the probability that American troops would have to return at some later date to confront an enemy that is even more dangerous.”

George W. Bush, July 12, 2007

Bush was right. Obama is a traitor but our cowardly Republicans in Congress won’t do anything about it.

Time to cut off all funding to the GOP until Boehner and McConnell are gone and real, sane, strong leaders are appointed.

I’m not sending these RINOs one drachma, shekel, Ruble, Yen, or cent (red or otherwise).

45,000 casualties are acceptable to Obama. As far as that goes 1,000,000 casualties would be acceptable to him.

Hell, at this rate we won’t have to send anyone in. They’ll just murder each other. No population can take this kind of attrition for long.

That is totally true as long as he isn't one of them.

"...but our cowardly Republicans in Congress won’t do anything about it."

That's because they're not "Republicans". Most of these apes we refer to as republicans wouldn't know the difference between a civil republic and a banana. Levin is right. Our last best hope is a states convention. Hopefully we can break up this mess of disparate countries and let the people that understand success move to states like Texas.

“45,000 casualties are acceptable to Obama.”

Yeah, but 9 people killed at a “wedding” was an Abomination.

There are about 24 Americans killed or murdered by illegal aliens every day. That is over 11,600 Americans killed (and no telling how many injured) in the same period of time that ISIS invaded Iraq. Obama cares only about helping terrorist supporting countries like Iran and helping illegal aliens.

in 2006 or so,
Bush should have had Iraq broken into
three parts.

to not do so is tragic
