... Bokas also does installation and repair jobs and half of those involve cash deals with no receipts for his labor. The result is that a job costing 250 euros ($275) goes for 125 euros because he doesnt charge the client sales tax and Bokas doesnt report the income for taxation. Ive got a receipt for everything I sell in my shop, Bokas said. But tax officials dont know what my hands do.

Greeks are not going to put their savings in the bank. Sure, businesses will need to put enough money in the bank to pay certain bills, and individuals will need money in the bank to pay mortgages and high ticket items, but no extra cushion sitting around for banksters or the gov to steal. Say your a Greek businessman in Santorini with a couple of restaurants and souvenir shops. Any surplus will go into PMs or cash; the bank will be only for expenses that require a check/digital payment. Ther will be a cash price and a digital price.

The only way to get rid of a gray market is to get rid of cash for credit cards.

A 25% sales tax?
I guess you can get away with that as long as you’re borrowing from the Germans.
Now they can’t.
The solution for socialists..... raise taxes.
Dear Greece:
Try an experiment. Reduce your tax rate in one area and see if you actually collect more tax money.

Frankly I don't blame them.......

State, city, Feds.....and then they give it to illegal aliens, and studies of green horned lesbian butterflies!!!
Yeah....I'm pissed off...and you should be too.

Economists say there is an optimum tax level above which you will collect fewer taxes and drive out business. Greece is far above that level.

Judge Learned Hand said that it isn’t a crime to arrange one’s affairs so as to minimize taxes.
Smart man, Judge Hand.

They may have high taxes but since they don’t collect them what difference does it make?

There is probably some fancy economics term for this that I don’t know, but a 25% tax rate is going to make most people roll their eyes and say, “Forget that baloney!”
People will be more likely to pay taxes at a lower rate.
People don’t like to feel like they are being used or taken.

I'm paying those kind of rates too, but cheating on my taxes could result in loss of my security clearance. It's simply not worth the penalty. I deal with it by driving a 1999 F150 instead of having car payments. A garage full of motorcycles with pink slips provides economical transport and amusement. My last real vacation was in April 1999. It was more important to pay off the mortgage and loans than have lots of fancy vacations and expensive toys.
It won't be long before the USA welfare state collapses. The ferals living on the dole will be roaming the streets and creating their own little Ferguson style riots. I won't worry much about paying those taxes as the same government that pays the ferals to do nothing is paying me to fix their broken software. No income, no labor.

Greeks are apparently famous for dodging taxes. And if they feel so bad about 25% taxes, maybe they should stop voting in leftist governments.
