SENATOR TED CRUZ: WHY DO WE MAINTAIN GUN-FREE ZONES ON MILITARY BASES? [April 2015]
Breitbart ^ | 21 Apr 2015 | AWR HAWKINS

On April 19, Senator Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) told gun owners at a Litchfield, New Hampshire, hunting club that it is past time to examine gun-free zones on military bases and to find a way to change the policy so soldiers can protect themselves.

Cruz cited three gun-related attacks in gun-free zones since November 2009 to emphasize his point: Fort Hood (2009), DC Navy Yard (2013), and Fort Hood (2014).

These attacks were all carried out on military installations by gunmen who passed background checks for their firearms. So the situation has not arisen from a lack of gun control, but from conditions created in a climate where there is so much gun control that innocent people cannot defend their own lives.

According to Politico, Cruz said, “I am very concerned about that policy. I think it’s very important to have a public discussion about why we’re denying our soldiers the ability to exercise their Second Amendment rights.”

Cruz told gun owners in Litchfield that he is “pressing” Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) for “hearings on whether soldiers should be allowed to carry their own concealed firearms onto military bases.”

Military gun-free zones were implemented just months into the Clinton presidency. The Washington Times reported that “one of President Clinton’s first acts upon taking office in 1993 was to disarm U.S. soldiers on military bases.”

On April 3, 2014, Breitbart News reported that the original directive relating to military gun-free zones, 5210.56, was issued during the last months of President George H.W. Bush’s presidency. Then, AR 190-14

No - we’ve had terrorist attacks at military bases before. This is not some brand new issue. Cruz better find his voice or he IS toast.

SENATOR TED CRUZ: WHY DO WE MAINTAIN GUN-FREE ZONES ON MILITARY BASES? [April 2015]

Because Obama is learning curve challenged?
(Actually, while I think Obama is, in fact, a mental light weight, and anyone with half a brain would realize that our unarmed soldiers will continue to be targeted by muzzie filth, I believe the real reason for Obama and HIS Department of Defense's deadly failure here is far more sinister.)

Yeah, so what will Trump’s bluster get him?

He can set his hair on fire and it will amount to nothing.

I don’t know Mike. Right now Trump is in 1st place. Cruz needs to take lessons from someone with some balls. As it is now Ted is in 7th place in the latest Fox poll - down at 4%. Out of all the candidates Cruz is my favorite but to be honest I don’t think he has a clue on how to win the Presidency.

This is also what Trump has been saying.

IMO every one from non com on up should at least be carrying a sidearm on bases and recruitment centers. They are our warriors for Gods sake why wouldn’t they have a gun.

I think Trump is in 1st place now because he is new, everyone has heard of him, is familiar with him. Even I who have no TV, know of him from back in the 80’s... Anyway, Trump has nothing to lose. He’s having fun upsetting the cart.

Cruz being in the seventh place means nothing right now. It’s as if he stepped back and is giving Trump the center stage to show off his stuff.

Who knows? maybe it’ll be a Cruz/Trump campaign at the end.
Short names, same vowels, much easier to remember for the rio linda voters.

Even before Trump started making headlines Cruz was never even close to the top. He has always been in the 4% area. I love the guy but I don't think he has a clue on how to run for President. Someone with all this talent and he is going nowhere

I’ve always thought this is an oxymoron. Military facility, no guns? What is the point?

Question I was looking on Facebook and the libs are saying that Bush was the guy who made military bases gun free. Trouble is that I do not believe them or trust them my question is were you in the military in 1993 and were the bases gun free then? For all I know the web got scrubbed of this information and it will take some time to get to the library.

So what if it was? it’s still a bad idea whomever came up with it. Leftists are like little children who try to excuse bad behavior by saying “but he did it, too.”
