AUSTIN -- Austin police have found the missing monocled cobra that may be connected to the death of an 18-year-old Temple man. The snake was found dead not far from the place where police believed it went missing.

Running over a snake will not kill it, at least the rattlers we have in Colorado. One needs to hit the brakes as you run over the snake to lock the wheels. That does the job!
I ran a rattler out of my yard with a garden hose. Turns out they dont like to be wet. I didn’t have snake shot at the time. That problem has now been solved....
Rattlers wont kill a full grown adult, although they will make you wish you hadn’t tangled with them
Im not afraid of snakes, and let the bull snakes and garters alone. However any rattler in my yard will meet its maker. Too dangerous for pets and children.
Pretty snakes you got. I had boas, kings, gophers, whips, garters, and one pathetic water snake. My favorite was the mountain king snake, absolutely beautiful.
I am not going to worry too much if someone’s stinky parrot gets away and lands in my backyard. But if their cobra gets away and crawls into my backyard, then that is problem. You sound like a responsible owner. Fortunately this is not a common hobby. The discipline it would take to safely keep something like a cobra would spoil all the fun out of it for me.
It’s more common that you might think but I agree, the level of attention required for a hot would take the fun out of it.
I’ve handled and dealt with a lot of hot snakes and they’re not that bad but I’m not interested in keeping them. I made it a point on knowing how to handle hots though. I do a lot of snake rescue in my area and many wild hots end up getting in spots where the home owners freak out. I usually just relocate them to the wild life management area near me.
Snakes are not something to be feared, but they do demand respect. Some people though just blow my mind at how freaked out they get over snakes.
Good on you for the rescue efforts. I “rescued” an enormous Bull snake, must have been at least 7 feet, and very thick. I saw it about to crawl onto a road where it likely would have been killed, so I grabbed its rear section and swung him around back toward the bushes which he then crawled under. He made no attempt to bite me, but it would have hurt bad if he did and succeeded. He probably later crawled back on that road but at least I tried.

Cats are one of the most destructive invasive species in our nation. They do severe ecological damage in just about every state in the Union.
What gets me is the irresponsible owners that let their cats out at will with no supervision every freaking day.
Yes I know about the hitting the brake trick, I have used it myself on south Texas rattlers. It peels them out of their skin!

Some cats insist on going outside, after a while you get tired of trying to keep them from running out every time you open the door.
It’s no excuse. If I let my big retics out like that people would scream bloody murder, yet, my retics would do less damage in a month than a cat can in half a day.

Your big snakes would cause a lot of people to have heart attacks because of surprise and shock. Cats, not so much.
Yes, but the fact remains, my snakes, yes the retics, eat far fewer meals than cats. Cats kill for sport. Snakes do not.
The point is, everyone is screaming about irresponsible owners of snakes. I’ll accept that when I see the irresponsible cat owners take responsibility for the 33 species of animals made extinct by pet cats and keep their free roaming murder machines secured in their house.
Just relocate them yourself or call a local snake keeper and have them do it. You do realize that by killing those rattlers you’re helping the real vermin spread disease and harm people...
I am out 3K for 4 snake bites in three years for my dogs.
