I did the math a year or two ago. Here in GA, about 5% of the adult population has a concealed carry license. That high of a number surprised me!

It’s a Southern thing. Calling a thug a gentleman is actually a slap in the face.

I hear the term “gentleman” quite frequenty here in Illinois and elsewhere when someone is referring to the perp, the bad guy, the offender. Can't agree with you that it's solely a Southern form of identification.
Aside from the bad guys, I do love the Southern way of speaking, the pleasantries, the courtesies, the warmth, the respect given to the person one is talking to. Takes me back to a time when it was the norm, and not the exception.
