John McCain responds to Donald Trump: 'I'm not a hero'
Business Insider ^ | 07/20/2015 | Colin Campbell

Sen. John McCain (R-Arizona) said Monday that real-estate developer Donald Trump should apologize for comments he made over the weekend — but not to him.

"I think he may owe an apology to the families of those who have sacrificed in conflict and those who have undergone the prison experience in serving our country," McCain said on MSNBC's "Morning Joe."

McCain was responding to Trump, a GOP presidential candidate who panned his war record over the weekend. Trump ignited a media firestorm by saying McCain was a war hero only because he was captured during the Vietnam War.

"He's not a war hero," Trump said Saturday while speaking at a forum in Iowa. "He is a war hero because he was captured. I like people that weren't captured, OK? I hate to tell you ... I believe, perhaps, he's a war hero."

Almost every Republican running for president quickly condemned Trump's remarks and praised McCain as a true war hero. But McCain, whose fighter plane was shot down over Vietnam and who was held prisoner for more than five years, said the real heroes were some of his commanding officers.

"In the case of many of our veterans, when Mr. Trump said that he prefers to be with people who are not captured, well, the great honor of my life was to serve in the company of heroes," McCain said. "I'm not a hero. But those who were my senior ranking officers … those that have inspired us to do things that we otherwise wouldn't have been capable of doing, those are the people that I think he owes an apology to."

So he wrapped himself in the flag and played the false modesty card? Yep, that’s him.

I’ll call on Trump to apologize to McCain as soon as McCain apologizes, TO ME, for calling me a ‘crazy’, and a ‘loony bird’.

“John McCain responds to Donald Trump: ‘I’m not a hero’”

Well at least McCain and Trump agree on something. Now it would be nice if McCain apologized to Trump’s supporters who he called “crazies”.

Hey McQueeg! What do you say to these Americans whom you called "crazies" to start all of this nonsense? Where is your apology to them?

His admission that he’s not a hero should have been stated by him decades ago and repeated as necessary. That he is now finally admitting the truth is a day late and a dollar short to say the least.

Will McCain and the rest of the beltway GOP crew apologize to the vets and families devastated by the VA hospital fiasco that is happening on his watch?

McCain doesn’t care about those vets or us. He’s happy sitting in his elitist castle and telling us folks back on Main Street to eat cake.

Juan,

Heroes are those that keep their word. You didn’t keep your word to the people of Arizona when you said, “Complete the danged fence” to get votes. You didn’t act like a hero to your ex-wife. You didn’t act like a hero when you chose to be corrupt in the Keating 5 scandal.

Juan, we have enough hero talk out of you to last many life-times. Please spare us.

Ok, so that means Bergdahl is a hero? Since he was a POW?

Maybe McAmnesty should apologize to POWs and MIAs.

Posthumously thanks to him.

Hurdles and limitations

Finally, in addition to these hurdles and limitations, the McCain act does not specifically order the declassification of the information. Further, it provides the Defense Department with other justifications for withholding documents. One such clause says that if the information “may compromise the safety of any United States personnel … who remain not accounted for but who may still be alive in captivity, then the Secretary [of Defense] may withhold that record or other information from the disclosure otherwise required by this section.”

Boiled down, the preceding paragraph means that the Defense Department is not obligated to tell the public about prisoners believed alive in captivity and what efforts are being made to rescue them. It only has to notify the White House and the intelligence committees in the Senate and House. The committees are forbidden under law from releasing such information.

McCain goes further to hurt future POWs...

Another bill gutted in 1996

And then there is the Missing Service Personnel Act, which McCain succeeded in gutting in 1996. A year before, the act had been strengthened, with bipartisan support, to compel the Pentagon to deploy more resources with greater speed to locate and rescue missing men. The measure imposed strict reporting requirements.

McCain amended the heart out of the statute. For example, the 1995 version required a unit commander to report to his theater commander within two days that a person was missing and describe what rescue and recovery efforts were underway. The McCain amendments allowed 10 days to pass before a report had to be made.

Truth: McCain needs to not only apologize to all the POWs and MIAs families for bills he blocked (in league with the vile John Kerry)——he needs to apologize to all the people in the USA for forcing Marxism/Socialist policies (slavery) on us for all his years in Congress.

Evil, evil man.
