Trump still leads GOP field, but descent may be beginning

Public Policy Polling's newest national poll finds that Donald Trump is likely facing at least some fallout from his comments about John McCain over the weekend. Nevertheless, he is narrowly leading the national field in the survey that went into the filed on Monday.

Trump gets 19% to 17% for Scott walker, 12% for Jeb Bush, 10% for Ben Carson and Marco Rubio, 8% for Mike Huckabee, 4% each for Ted Cruz, Carly Fiorina, and Rand Paul, 3% each for Chris Christie and John Kasich, 1% for Bobby Jindal, Rick Perry, and Rick Santorum, and less than 1% each for Jim Gilmore, Lindsey Graham, and George Pataki. ... His favorability rating is back down in the 40s at 48/39.

Although it's not a perfect comparison, the state polls in Virginia (58/32) and North Carolina (55/32) over previous two weeks had found him with numbers in the mid to upper 50's.

PPP has been cited here at Free Republic in support of conservatives many times in the past, as I Gooled to see just how many times and it was quite alot...

No specifics today at the presser on what he was going to do with the 11 million illegals in the U.S., no specifics on where the wall would be built (if the wall is built north of the Rio Grande, what will cattle ranchers in the U.S. do?), no proof on Mexico sending illegals to the U.S. - and this has been asked for quite some time now and on and on.

Trump will be able to hire good negotiators? Where are the people to give him specifics in his campaign?

He has been asked (Anderson Cooper, today at a press conference, etc) what evidence he has that the Mexican government is itself sending people here (forcing people to come to America), but he apparently will provide the information soon? Does one make statements without first providing proof?

Trump was asked about the security threats that EL Chapo posed and he answered "Huh"? When the reporter followed that by asking "The drug lord," Trump answered "I don't know anything about that" But Trump recently said called for the FBI to investigate a threat he had received.

Trump has been hammered by others saying he employs illegals. Cooper has previously stated to Trump the some of Trump's employees have been asked and said they were undocumented.

I’ve never seen anyone take down the media like Trump is:

I’m loving it.

About time. the news media has run and ruined this country for so long . It feels great to see somebody finally beating the media

WaPo/ABC News polls have been called into question in the past by conservatives, but it seems some like the recent one of Donald Trump at 24%, and have cited PPP here at Free Republic many times in the past (Google it) but may not like it now.

The Des Moines Register was hammered by Trump recently over one of its articles about Trump, but I didn’t see him hammer the New York Post’s article hammering him saying “Don Voyage” to his candidacy.

Problem is, Hot Air, the New York Post, Red State, Washington Examiner and many other conservative media have been going after Trump.

“Trump has been hammered by others saying he employs illegals. Cooper has previously stated to Trump the some of Trump’s employees have been asked and said they were undocumented.”

Of course no one gives a name. The media just says anonymous sources. As long as the media doesn’t have to prove anything, they can say what ever they want.

No, no, no.

Wapo/ABC News polls are good (Trump at 24%) until they show a downturn for a candidate that some conservatives like. Then the poll is called into question.

Freepers here have done this in the past with WaPo/ABC News poll threads.

And have cited PPP when they like them, but will now probably hammer this PPP poll.

I guess the Des Moines Register is a failing newspaper, but the New York Post is not? If so, when and how?

Do you think they would get fired if they gave their names?

Conservative media give anonymous sources and no one questions them. I have aid in the pas, question liberal media and conservative media over anonymous sources or question neither side. That is the only way to be balanced on this.

Trump asked Anderson to tell him who they were. He said he did not know. It is easy to accuse someone and then say well I don’t know who is accusing you. Trump said that they were very careful to vet the employees. That was his answer. What more do you want?

It is amazing that these people make accusations but they cannot back up where they come from and expect Trump to assume it is true.

Wait until the coming debate on Fox.

He and Cruz will come out on top.

Both will gain in their poll numbers.

The part in this poll that has Trump back down to 39% favorable lines up with the major poll taken after he announced his candidacy and had him at 40% favorable, with this poll giving him 39% favorable.

His favorables in Iowa and elsewhere are at Hillary levels.
