Heller: McCain Blocked Amendment To Arm Troops on Bases Weeks Before Chattanooga Attack
Townhall.com ^ | July 26, 2015 | Leah Barkoukis

Nevada Sen. Dean Heller knew it wasn’t a good idea to ban arms from our military bases and recruiting centers, which is why in June—weeks before the Chattanooga attack—he submitted an amendment to the 2016 National Defense Authorization Act which would “give military base commanders the authority to allow service members to carry personal firearms.” Unfortunately, his amendment was blocked, by none other than Sen. John McCain.

The Republican senator explained in an interview on the Lars Larson Show that McCain, who’s the Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman, “didn’t want the amendment as part of the [2016 National Defense Authorization] bill and wouldn't accept it."

Five days after the horrible shooting in Tennessee, Heller resubmitted his amendment, which asked that the NDAA conferees include it to help prevent similar situations from happening again.

"I encourage all conferees to look at my amendment, along with the language passed by the House, as a reasonable and effective way to move forward on this issue and give our nation's base commanders the authority they need to create a safer environment for our heroes serving across America,” Heller's letter to the Committee read. “Never should the men and women serving at home have to be afraid that the base they work, and often live, on is not safe."

Good grief - I didn’t know McCain would keep on giving bonafide evidence that he doesn’t give a crap about our military! I sure hope Trump and Cruz shout this to the mountain tops!!!

Cruz has Mitch McConnell in hiding over his TPA lies, and hopefully this will get traitor McCain more negative exposure.

McCain is a turd that should never been reelected two terms ago since he looked more liberal than conservative.

I’m not sure why anyone would try to run against him.

It’s the damnedest thing to watch the support he gets, even from folks calling themselves Conservatives.

People even go in front of the Tea Party and tell them he’s one with them. All you can do is bow your head and shake it back and forth.

A good man ran against him last time. Look at the respect he got.

We’re stuck with McCain until he’s 150.

The Arizone Republican party has no shame whatsoever.

John isn’t just a problem himself, ever new recruit that shows up in Washington is contacted by this bastard to turn them to his will.

Folks wonder why Washington doesn’t change. Look no farther than John McCain.

It is one reason we need term limits. People don’t want to give up the power their seasoned Senators and Representatives get for being in Washington an eternity.

The old vote them out is term limits doesn’t work in most cases. Incumbency is powerful by design.

The problem is, good people go to Washington, serve and leave.

Guys like this SOB go there and you can’t pry them out with a crow-bar.

I tend to agree with term limits.

This is big!

Let's make sure the revelation continues to have legs!

The media will try to bury it to protect McLame.

Did anyone see JMc’s interview with BOR last week. He said he was calling people “crazies” as a term of endearment. He insists he was just having a little fun, like they always do in Washington. He really needs to grow up.

Go ask J. D. Hayworth if he would run again.

Ask him how he enjoyed Palin’s endorsement.

Ask him how he liked hearing her support cart playing non-stop for months across Arizona.

Ask him what he thought of Conservatism, as the broad body of Conservatives continued to champion McCain’s most prominent public supporter after she chose him to support.

McCain could literally kill 50 veterans and still be referred to as a War Hero and friend of the military.

Good luck to anyone trying to defeat him. They’ll win big. Big debt, big loss, big humiliation... beaten by the likes of John McCain and Conservatism’s supposed most ardent supporters.
