Once again, I did not blame the Chinese for our debt. I make decisions in my country’s best interests, not the interests of China. If tariffs make our goods more competitive and increase manufacturing startups, I’m for them.

You seem to be for China and against American jobs as long as it supports anything you say that may denigrate Trump.

My position is, if everyone EXCEPT the anti-Trump activists understand basic economics, that’s a statistic I can live with.

Well, you’re welcome to have that argument with hundreds of others with much more understanding of these markets than I do.

Many of them share my views.

Thanks.

So, in your opinion, higher prices, more government control of the economy, and fewer choices for consumers is in the country's best interest?

How does protecting American industry from competition make American industry more competitive?

I'm not denigrating Trump. He probably knows better but finds that his populist message resonates with people who really don't understand economics. He wants your vote and he knows that populism sells to a certain segment of the population. I think Trump understands economics. I don't think you do.

In my opinion tariffs serve their purpose. You have purposely misstated my opinion for the third time to gain your self-perceived political end in this discussion. You are a liar, sir. Congratulate yourself. But forgive me if I do not keep your lying company.

You said China manipulates their currency to make imports more expensive even though that isn't really in their interest. You gave Jim a hard time because he didn't understand that in doing this we can't compete.

The alleged currency manipulation has little impact on prices so I think you offered up a straw man. China does a lot of things in an attempt to make their industry more competitive, but it hurts them more than it does us.

Any criticism about America's competitiveness, or lack thereof, should be directed at our massive, abusive, and profligate government.

I appreciate your point of view on it.

As I said, if you wish to take this up with someone, take it up with people who work in the field and agree with me.

Thanks.

In my opinion tariffs serve their purpose.

Again, what you're telling us is that higher prices, a bigger and more influential government, and less consumer choice serve a purpose. That's exactly what results from tariffs, and your purpose is consistent with people who look to government to take care of them. Doesn't sound very conservative to me, and it appears that this fact causes you to get angry and run away.

And in your world tariffs work in every country but ours, because Trump mentioned them. You are both a liar and a fool.

Not wanting to keep company with a liar and a fool, I’m sure, makes me very, very wrong in your eyes. You should address these concerns in future to those who still humor you.

In what country do tariffs work? What country can compare to the economic success that we enjoy? You're talking out of your butt.

The n00b thinks Milton Friedman is a liar and a fool. Another big government conservative. Great.

The continued proliferation of government regulation, higher taxes, and less freedom of choice for consumers helps us? I don't think you've thought this out.

Opposing selling America's manufacturing to criminal countries does not mean we support the "proliferation of government regulation" etc etc on American society. Presumably, though you want free trade with China, you do not support what they do with that money, which goes beyond the mere raising of taxes!

Regarding the GATT situation (pity, looks like we gave away our right for the Fed to set tariffs as noted in the Constitution), then, perhaps it is time to abolish the Income Tax and go to a VAT?
