“He actually paid over 50,000 just to kill a lion? Think about that. What good he could have done to help people with that money and he uses it for that? Pathetic!”

I don’t think that he is obligated to help anybody but himself/his family, but charity is a Good Thing.

I don’t have a problem with hunting/fishing, but if you “bag” it, if you and your friends don’t eat it, it’s wasteful and stupid. And no rare animals whose shooting will make Americans look ugly worldwide, please. The Africans hear it all the time over conservation from the West, and then this crap happens. Great.

It’s hard to get on the high horse with the Asians over whaling and rhino horn after something like this.

It’s also my opinion that Piers Morgan is a jackass, to put it politely, despite what I may think of Dr. Palmet.

Palmer went to Zimbabwe to engage in this conduct. The courts of Zimbabwe should measure his conduct.

Elephants are fairly smart.

I get the big game hunt, safari thing & correct me if wrong, but what this dentist did didn’t seem like typical hunt? My hubby hunts game birds and occasional deer so when I asked him why someone would shoot/hunt a lion, he said it’s a trophy hunt/to hang the head on wall. Is that all there is to it? Just trying to wrap my head around the killing of this lion..seems wrong to me.

The thing that bothers me the most about this is he shot the lion with bow and arrow, lion did not die took them 40 hours to find her and shoot her dead!!!! The animal suffered for some 40 hour before being put out of her misery!!!!! BASTARDS!!!!!!

You needn't wonder why you have trouble wrapping your head around it. It is weird. I suspect that there are guys who, for one reason or another, sense that other people are questioning or raising doubts about their masculinity. So, naturally, they look for ways to try to combat those doubts and some of them can do some pretty weird things to try to convince other people that they really are males. Why else would someone do something like this? It's just weird.

Didn’t say he was obligated to help anybody, but using that kind of money for something like that? I don’t like anybody doing this sort of thing no matter what country they are from. Hunting is one thing to get food, but this isn’t what this was.

It’s a totemic thing.

We don’t need to hunt down and kill competing predators any more but for most of mankind’s existence we did.

True, maybe they object because of money and where it goes, but hunting for food is one thing, just killing just for sport is another. Obviously some charities are better than others, but I didn’t mean charity and some other way to help others instead.

Let's not generalize too much. I'll se if I can find a quote or two from Teddy on the subject.

Makes sense..someone on another thread was saying it was the guide fault, not his..that this guy was just doing what he liked to do, big game/sport hunting. I agree, it’s weird and wrong!

I can be enraged at both.

Roosevelt refused to shoot a bear that his guides had tied up for him. The media was so taken by it they started the Teddy Bear craze.

The media has always loved a ‘progressive’ LOL!

An apt story though because reactions to this are probably based mostly on whether one thinks the fellow intended to honestly hunt a lion or he intended to have a lion led to him for slaughter.

I think most normal people just find this kind of conduct to be weird. It's just so gratuitous and destructive. What is the point of it? At most, it seems to be a desperate effort to trick other people into thinking that the guy has engaged in an act of personal courage when he hasn't. It reminds me of the guys who buy and wear service medals that they didn't earn. Why?
