A father shot was arrested after shooting down an $1,800 drone that was hovering over his sunbathing daughter.

William H. Merideth, 47, from Kentucky was charged with first degree criminal mischief and first-degree wanton endangerment.

The owner of the drone claims he was only trying to take pictures of a friend's house, when Merideth shot at the device, sending it crashing into a field near his yard last weekend.

I don’t care how high up they are. People should have a right to privacy.

I was reminded by someone else, but it’s good to keep in mind that we may only be hearing one side or the other of the situation. I do reserve the right to a different opinion if it turns out that the drone was not in fact hovering, as the man with the gun says.

If that is so, I would re-evaluate.

Name and address of the friend. Show us the house. A high tech window-peeking creep, IMHO.

I like my snake eyes side by side .410 derringer style pistol. I got it for dispatching copperheads that got too close to my feet in the weeds while I was beginning to clear my lot. It is hard to hit a two foot one of those with .22 or a .45 with a quick shot and taking time to aim is not advised when one of these things is close.

The right to privacy is the constitutional premise behind the right to abortion and that’s stretched too far, it will get overturned, but a guy can’t protect the privacy of his backyard

I just read the headline I don’t know

But are Ted Cruz and mark levin the only two public figures who understand the concepts of constitutional protections

Being wreckless means he hasn't crashed or doesn't crash.
Being reckless means he doesn't reckon the consequences of his actions and is more prone to crashes.

Ban the drones?

Maybe we should ban young females from sunbathing in the backyard. Maybe we should ban guns from fathers? Oh wait, we like those things....

Principle should be telling you a "ban" is always the last option that should ever be considered in a free society. I personally think drones in the hands of civilians may be very important to liberty in the very near future. Don't react like a liberal "drone".

Why aren’t the drone operators facing the same charges?

If the drone failed over the property, or the operator goofed up, the sunbathing daughter could have been seriously injured.

Then the police don’t even take the SIM card from the drone—that’s evidence!

These charges should be dismissed.

I like the part when the four men who had the drone approach him after the shootdown, and stop when they see he is armed, and he warns them if they cross his sidewalk, there will be another shooting.

They invaded the space, and lost the drone. They should not have been so stupid and careless. Lesson learned.

Call me skeptical, but he sounds like a voyeur.

I applaud the father but think that a .410 would have been much more appropriate.

i've got a taurus judge revolver that would be perfect for that job

Does anybody have a photo of the sunbathing daughter?

I think some of us would like the opportunity to assess the guilt or innocence of the father here.

If it comes over our house we are going to get out the shotgun and play sporting drones. :-)

The drone owner claims in “edited last 40 seconds telemetry” that drone was never below 200 feet. Hasn’t released unedited video from storage card.
