Sure, it will work great! It will make my combined degree and work experience invaluable, no matter how old I get in the workforce! Make college tuition “free” and the degrees will begin to resemble the apartments in public housing. They will not be respected by the recipients and will be void of any true value.

Thanks Bernie. I don’t mind having the job security. Of course you younger people should look to EU for your coming unemployment rates of 25-50%. I hope you enjoy your “free” stuff.

Instead of printing money, print degrees, both are worth about the same today. You have to make a degree work for you, a rubber stamp degree does nothing for you in the job market. Math, Science, Engineering, Medical, Biology are the money makers.(Not necessarily in that order.) I ended up with a teaching degree, yeah an easy one. But I was more interested in going Army OCS since we didn’t have it at the College I attended. It got me there, I ended up as an instructor of officer courses, damn, they still used me as a teacher. Life was Good as an instructor and the advanced degrees were on them. No one seems to consider the Military as an education system. I wonder if they know about the free Medical School opportunities? There are others too. You don’t need an election year free education BS, its out there, just make sure your grades are up and not rubber stamped.

Looking forward to the day one of these kongress kritter klowns unveils free government, i.e., no taxes, no fees, etc.

How does the Department of Education profit off student loans?
Don’t they reimburse the lenders in case of default?
And the lenders collect the interest?

Why not? Vote-buying doesn’t come cheap. Besides, Broomhilda wants to buy the same voting bloc.

Colleges could then charge as much as they like to the tax payers. There would be no cost controls at all.

Even if the Dept of Education is now keeping the interest, surely it does not offset the default rate.

I don’t see what good expanding work study would do. Colleges are overloading the program as it is.

Many CWSP jobs go the entire school year without ever being filled unless the absolutely perfect applicant comes along, and many CWSP awardees can’t claim their grants because no university staff member will hire them.
