It is undisputed, at this point that the "Climate Change" evangelicals are rife with fraud, financial opportunists and the politically power hungry. And little else.
Then he must think vacuous platitudes will get him elected.
A set of Lifelong guiding principles is a two-edged sword.
Ultimately, the facts and truth prevail. There are so many embarrassing historical individuals who discovered (or not) that truism:

When facts change, the true scientist or expert, also changes his view of the subject.
Fanatics and dogmatists (or outright frauds,) usually go down with the sinking ship.
And note that government never played a role in the ultimate positive resolution of transcendental technical world problems or issues. Politicians never need apply. They act as if they knew everything, but usually are just clever ignorant idiots with a mouth, a telephone and a pen.
He sounds of little faith. There is no way humans can destroy earth. Maybe hurt small parts of it in some way as in nuclear but earth will survive.
The commie global warmers make me ill. Did they not have classes in fourth grade about ice ages and oxygen/C02 relationship?
