A state appeals court in Colorado ruled Thursday that a baker could not cite religious beliefs in refusing to make wedding cakes for same-sex couples.
The decision is the latest in a series of similar rulings across the country that have been cheered by civil rights groups but attacked by conservative Christians as assaults on religious liberty.
Whether photographers, florists, bakers and other vendors who are Christians should have a right to refuse services for same-sex marriages has emerged as a major cultural and legal battle, one that has intensified since the Supreme Court decision in June establishing same-sex marriage as a constitutional right.
In the Colorado case, the court squarely said that this is discrimination based on sexual orientation and its not to be tolerated, even if its motivated by faith, said Louise Melling, deputy legal director of the American Civil Liberties Union, which represented the gay couple. Religious liberty gives you the right to your beliefs but not the right to harm others.
But lawyers for the cake shop said the appeals panel got it wrong and that they would probably appeal to the Colorado Supreme Court.
Our client did not engage in sexual-orientation discrimination, said Jeremy Tedesco, a senior lawyer with Alliance Defending Freedom, a Christian legal group based in Arizona. He argued that an objection to same-sex marriage was not the same as discriminating against a gay person and noted that the baker, Jack Phillips, of Masterpiece Cakeshop in Lakewood, Colo., also refused to make cakes celebrating Halloween because he associates the holiday with Satan.

“Bake the cake!”
If someone asks me for a rainbow flag quilt I will not make it for them. If they insist that I make it for them then I’ll drape it over their casket.
Churches are no longer a valid entity and it WILL take a bloody revolution to stop and correct this travesty
Even D Trump can't change this
Christian business owners need to learn how to play the game.
Bake the cake with a side order of Christianity.
When the order the cake, ask them to pray with you. Help these unrepentant sinners to find Jesus and repent from their sinful ways.
If they don’t run out the door. Just keep it up. Bring up their sinful ways in every conversation with them. Call them over and over about minor details while quoting the bible verses that say homosexuality is a sin.
They will get the message.

It's official ... traditional marriage (the pervue of the church) is now EQUAL TO queer "marriage" (the pervue of the state )...
Now equal
The reason for refusing to do business with any particular individual, when one is acting in the capacity of proprietor of a business, has up to now been a matter of personal choice, and one which has been relatively inviolate since the founding of this country.
You do not have to do business with anyone you do not want to have any transactions with. Hostility is very much a reason to avoid further contact with the customer, and expelling them from the premises is entirely within the rights of the proprietor.
Try getting smart with the bartender sometime. You would have found yourself outside on your butt on the sidewalk.
Sadly you are wrong, there are a 1000 laws forcing you to do business with people. Gays have been added to the “special” list.
I am still waiting to hear the outrage from “black Christians” over gay marriage. As far as I am concerned, they traded in their faith for their 30 pieces of silver in the form of welfare handouts.
Nice sentiment, but it wouldn’t work. Baking a bad cake wouldn’t work either. The homosexuals would go after them for a hate crime. Anti-discrimination laws opened the door to government tyranny and the loss of the freedom of association. Americans are so indoctrinated in the government school, that they believe blacks and Hispanics would never get jobs or be allowed in restaurants if it weren’t for our “compassionate” government forcing businesses to do so. It’s completely false.
Yes...
Do “bake the cake”, after adding one ingredient to the recipe.
Then — after being paid in full for the cake — tell the “happy couple” that Holy Water has been sprinkled on the cake as a way to exorcise any “demons” that may be infesting anyone who eats that cake.
Come to think of it, using Holy Water in this way would benefit EVERYONE who gets married.
Sure. With laxatives. Fudge frosting is free.
I think what is going to happen is that Christian bakers, photographers etc have to stop doing weddings period.
Then there might be a mechanism where the orders come through certain Christian churches where there is a pre-existing arrangement regarding whether the weddings are going to be within the bounds of Scripture.
Another possibility is that there might be a new business of “Christian Wedding Coordinator,” where the coordinator only does Christian religious weddings, and then they refer services out to bakers, photographers on a list.
This is why 2016 is so very important because otherwise, what you predict will very much likely with happen.
I got the crap beat out of me for taking that position on another thread. The Church defined and administered marriage for millennia. Get the government out of marriage.
The way to do this actually to have a posted policy that says “We do not cater weddings or make special request for weddings”
The perverts are then free to purchase any cake on the shelf
LOL perfect....: )
