Well, that’s an interesting way of putting it. Could you rephrase that in simple english? I think I’m missing your point. And I wonder if we aren’t thinking of different “fundamentals” entirely.
The biggest difference between Ted Cruz & me is that I do not do one thing (allegedly on behalf of a constituency) & then, say the opposite when there is protest (or the obvious disagreement) to what I have done. If you believe in something that may be/ is unpopular- fine. But don’t try to rationalize, blame something someone else has done, or otherwise “talk your way out of it”, because it is what it is. People will either agree or not- as is their prerogative.
I have a real major problem with him giving 0bama more power (& when that’s done, it’s done. It can’t be undone.). Twice, on 2 different & very important issues- TPA & this Iran deal. WTH? Whose side is he *really* on? (because I honestly can’t tell)

They had their differences. And if they hadn't been able to put them aside the entire enterprise would have failed. To assume the mantle of "conservative" I think requires that you carefully examine and explicitly identify exactly what it is you're attempting to conserve. It will implicitly be legacy, and so we must look to history to find it. How better to conserve it than to emulate they men who created it?

I see. But they have to be differences that *can* be put aside- in the first place. And in the second, the parties must act in good faith. When one party misleads- or attempts to mislead, everything breaks down. You can’t work with a dishonest broker.
I don’t know what the intent was, if any. If it wasn’t “intent”, that’s not good, either. In context (Senator Cruz’ competencies), it would be even worse if these were “accidents” or whatever. Moments of weakness, maybe. Maybe he just needs a few more years to get his bearings & he will get where he needs to be. (OR maybe he is where he needs to be as he is. That is up to him.)
We cannot- after 8 years of 0bama + a year of the democrats controlling both houses of Congress before that, afford any *unnecessary* screw ups. These things are foreseeable, in the Senator’s (& the other candidates’) case. Why take that risk? I don’t know about anybody else, but I am tired of “living on the edge”.
For whatever flaws Donald Trump may have, he is an overachiever, a perfectionist, & I see his ego- or his own personal standards for himself, as a failsafe. Can he fail? Sure. But he’s going to go to the wall to succeed because he has a personal investment to do so. You can’t ask for more than that. I can relate to how he is, so he is very credible to me.
That is why I prefer him as the candidate for president.

I don’t see Trump getting behind anyone. If he loses to Cruz, or anyone else, I think he’s a real wild card.
He doesn’t seem to be much of a team player....which is part of his appeal right now.

That looks more like a requirement than a preference. By your account there is no other candidate you do not have differences with that you cannot put aside.
A cleansing, yes a cathartic one where the real Conservatives depart the party of demonlite.
I can’t think of anything Mr Trump has said that I disagree with off the top of my head, no. There may have been something, but it must not have made much of an impression on me.
I do see him as exceptional & let’s face it, that’s a pretty low bar in the world of politics. He’s a pretty exceptional person in real life. (I was not a “fan” before this, but everyone has heard of him & has an idea of the things he’s done.) I rate politicians just a hair above used car salesmen. Joe Blow down the road could probably be nearly/ as exceptional, just without the money.
H1Bs & immigration (ground zero all my life), TPA, the Iran deal are all BIG deals to me. Yuge, as they say. So I was paying attention when they happened & pulling my hair out each time. You might note (if it matters) that I neither came out against Senator Cruz or for (all in “for”) Mr Trump until a little later than most of the people who are already into this. I’d be just as upset if it weren’t election season.
I am not all into proselytizing for Trump. People will choose whom they will & have their own reasons for doing so. Good! However, if someone misrepresents something about one of them repeatedly & I know about it, I’ll eventually speak up. That goes for everyone, including my candidate. (I’m not going to get all huffy if someone has something unknown & true to say about Trump. lol It better be true or I’ll git ‘em)
I will brag on somebody as fast as I will complain.
There is some degree of ego in all of them. I can put aside some of my differences with Jindal (his odds are about nil.) & I haven’t taken an eye off Scott Walker, just in case Mr Trump doesn’t pan out. Or Dr Carson. I’m sorry, tacticalogic- because you are SO civil & that is SO rare, but Senator Cruz… dang. I can’t unsee what has been seen.

It is entirely possible that the best thing this primary/election cycle will produce is a final separation of the wheat from the chaff.

There is currently NO party for conservatives in the USA.
There is virtually no chance that the GOPestablishment party will repent and change their minds.
This coming election we may be able to win with them, while they are kicking and screaming... But regardless, I do not believe the GOP will survive in its current state through this election cycle. I believe that this is....
the PURGE election.

I guess it’s a good thing there are those old videos from the 80s. Mr Trump hasn’t changed his tune about his concerns for America in nearly 30 years.
What I'm looking for in a presidential candidate is not someone who's going to "make America great again". I want someone who wants to kneecap the bureaucracies, hand the power back to Congress, the States, and the people, and watch us do it.
The has to be more than just a man with a vision, a pen and a phone. That's no way to run a republic.
Nothing wrong with that. At all. If only these were transient issues! Both should have been abandoned or altered long ago. We seem to be bogged down in them- like quicksand.
Excellent bucket list! And that is a really an important point. No one is going to “save” us. We could use a leader & we *desperately* need to clear out our Congress (& probably our SCOTUS) of those who have become corrupt, lost the plot, &/ or are lazy. Our Congress is just a mess! But ultimately, it is up to us. Laziness/ complacency/ passivity got us into this mess. I wonder if our country has grown too large & too “diverse” for us to be able to function as the Founders intended, though.
A vision is helpful ( to provide focus). At this point, probably someone to point people in the right direction at times, but yes- “a pen & a phone” is not the American way. (I think about how we got to this point over the last 50 years & I vacillate between wanting to scream & punch the wall or sit down in the middle of the floor & cry. It’s probably why I’m so sensitive to warnings. We should have known!)
