Jeb Bush: Birthright citizenship is "a constitutional right"
CBS News ^ | 8/18/15 | REBECCA KAPLAN

Posted on 08/18/2015 1:48:19 PM PDT by jimbo123

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush said Tuesday that birthright citizenship is a "constitutional right," casting doubt on fellow 2016 candidate Donald Trump's plan to do away with it.

"That's a constitutional right," Bush told CBS News Chief White House Correspondent Major Garrett during an interview in South Carolina, where he is campaigning. "Mr. Trump can say he's for this because people are frustrated that it's abused. We ought to fix the problem rather than take away rights that are constitutionally endowed."

Speaking to reporters later, he added, "I don't support revoking it."

I’m sure Jeb got in front of the camera in record time, running not walking, to let his opinion on that be known to us.

Er, Jeb, ol' buddy, ol' pal, just how do we "fix the problem" without revoking it?

They should take all of the illegals and stick them on the Bush compound in Paraguay. Actually, I love Paraguay, but since the Bushes love illegal aliens so much, they can take them all in.

These politicians have such a warped view of the Constitution. They cannot interpret it correctly. This is why this country is in such bad shape.

“If Obama can change laws with his phone and pen, Trump can do the same.”

Please don’t think this way.

We can fix this, but not by peeing all over the Constitution like Obozo did, because Obozo did.

We are supposed to be smarter than they are.

We may need to destroy this country to save it.

Jefferson said a revolution was necessary and this would be a bloodless one.

The alternative is worse.

TC, read kabar’s post 19 about the law needed to fix the 14th amendment. It’s absolute genius, and spot on correct.

There are plenty of ways to save the Republic, and having a guy like Cruz in your corner is the way to go.
He could write that bill and make it constitutionally bulletproof in the process.

Let’s not give up on it. Uncle Sam may be limping, but he ain’t dead yet.

In current interpretations of the 14rh Amendment, foreign ambassadors’ children born on US soil don’t receive US citizenship. That same logic could exclude any two foreign nationals’ US-born child—if five Supreme Court justices care to employ said logic.

“Go to hell you Mexican interloper! I wouldn’t vote for yeb if you held a gun to my head! “

Funny thing is, in Mexico, there’s no such thing as “birthright citizenship!”
If he had tried to stay there with his Chicana, they would have told him to leave.

“It requires ANOTHER CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT REMOVING “ANCHOR-BABY CITIZENSHIP”.”

Anchor Baby citizenship has never been addressed by the SCOTUS. But I think Trump should just use E-Verify to dry up all the jobs. No need to round them up, simply make them unemployed and they will leave provided we cut off all the benefits at the same time.

Is that in the ‘good and plenty’ clause in the US Constitution or is at ‘we the peoples’ revisionist history of the US Constitution

It would have to be repealed because not one in ten is capable of understanding what is meant by, “...subject to the jurisdiction thereof...”

“...birthright citizenship for the children of temporary visitors and illegal aliens could likely be abolished by statute without amending the Constitution.”

That would certainly make sense since it was never granted by the constitution, including the wording of the fourteenth.
Temporary visitors and illegal aliens do not fall within the meaning of, “subject to the jurisdiction thereof.”
