Wouldn’t it be easier and cheaper to seriously penalize employers hiring illegals? Drying up employment prospects should incentivize illegals to go back home.

There’s not a reason in the world why we couldn’t do both. A nation such as ours is perfectly capable of multi-tasking. This is a multi-faceted problem which needs to be attacked on multiple fronts.
Incentivize them to go back home, or go on welfare? It only works if we STOP ALL GOVERNMENT HANDOUTS TO ILLEGALS.
