In 2013, Planned Parenthood’s Chicago affiliate was sued when a 24-year-old woman named Tonya Reaves died from a second trimester abortion. After the tragedy, Dorsey Johns, Reaves’ mother, told a Chicago television station that Planned Parenthood staff “carelessly performed” the elective abortion and failed to properly monitor and assess her daughter’s condition after the procedure.
The abortionist who performed the procedure on Reaves, Mandy Gittler (shown above), is currently employed at a Planned Parenthood facility in Kalamazoo, Michigan. However, Gittler has not obtained proper licensing in Michigan and she’s had several complaints filed against her in the last two years.
In 2014, an Illinois complaint against Gittler highlighted problems with the abortionist’s staff and mentioned that her Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) certificate license might be fined.
Additionally, on page 46 of Gittler’s sworn deposition in the Reaves/Jones v. Gittler case, it was mentioned that her facility was in immediate jeopardy for not doing a quality control; and her corporation, All Women’s Health, S.C. was “not in good standing” according to the corporation file detail report.
A January Michigan complaint indicates Gittler is performing abortions at Planned Parenthood without a proper drug control license, which is required by licensed medical doctors in the state.

My complaint is against Mandy Gittler, M.D. She has no Drug Location License while working at:
Planned Parenthood 4201 West Michigan Avenue Kalamazoo, MI 49006
A Drug Location License is need when IV sedation is used to numb the cervix. On the Drug Control License Application it says: “Authority: Public Act 368 of 1978, as amended if this form is not completed, a license will not be issued.” Also:
“A drug control license must be obtained by all licensed medical doctors, doctors of osteopathic medicine, podiatric medicine and dentists WHO ROUTINELY DISPENSE DRUGS from their principal place of practice. A separate drug control license is required for each business location from which you routinely dispense drugs.
It is unclear if she is also working at these other locations too, requiring an additional Drug Location License.

Administering and dispensing prescription drugs without a license is illegal. This would be a violation of Section 17745(1) of the Code, contrary to Section 17768(1) of the Code.
She has violated Article 7 of the Public Health Code or rules promulgated thereunder. Also she might have settled a lawsuit involving the death of Tanya Reaves at the Planned Parenthood in Illinois. Her partial deposition and more is enclosed regarding this.

In a statement from Operation Rescue, Cheryl Sullenger, said the following about Gittler: “Today, Gittler continues the practice of aborting innocent babies, but with some changes. It appears she has moved on from the Planned Parenthood clinic that was the scene of the Reaves tragedy. She also shut down her private Chicago-area abortion business last fall. Gittler has drifted to various abortion clinics, working for a brief period at a seedy abortion mill in Peoria, Illinois, before making a new home at Planned Parenthood’s abortion facility Kalamazoo, Michigan, where women have never heard of her troubled past.”
Finally, in appears like Gittler covered up her history with Reaves on her Michigan and Indiana licensing applications. On the application, she checked off “no settlements” even though the Chicago Planned Parenthood where she was employed sued (and settled with the family) in regards to Tonya Reaves’ death.
Sullenger concluded, “Reaves’ death continues, as it should to haunt Gittler, but only in small ways. Operation Rescue discovered that Gittler lied about her part in the Reaves family lawsuit when applying for new medical licenses in Indiana and Michigan. Complaints were filed with state medical boards and those investigations are ongoing. In the last year a young motherless Chicago area boy, who likely has no first-hand memory of his momma, celebrated his fourth birthday. Meanwhile, Tonya Reaves lies in her grave still waiting for justice.”
As LifeNews previously reported, CBS News said the following about Reaves’ lawsuit: “The suit further claims the clinic did not do enough to stop Reaves’ bleeding, and that staff members failed to adequately warn an on-call doctor about the potentially life-threatening condition.” As a result, Planned Parenthood had to pay a $2 million settlement to the family because of their part in her death. It is likely Reaves would have survived if she would have received immediate emergency care and if Planned Parenthood had shared medical information with the hospital related to her incomplete abortion and uterine perforation.
On August 22nd, Young Professionals for Life, Citizens for a Pro-Life Society, Created Equal, 40 Days for Life and the Pro-Life Action League will be holding a protest at the Planned Parenthood facility in Kalamazoo from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. In a press release, the pro-life groups said the event is part of a National Day of Protest taking place at Planned Parenthood offices and abortion facilities all across the United States to raise awareness about the company’s organ harvesting business.
A spokesman for the event, Brandi Mannino, said, “All politics is local. We cannot only look to Washington, DC and our state governments to solve this problem. Planned Parenthood is located in large and small communities all across America. Each community with a Planned Parenthood abortion clinic or satellite office needs to take action against the killing of babies and the trafficking of their body parts. Concerned local citizens from Kalamazoo will be sending the message that it’s well past time for Planned Parenthood to be run out of town!”
