GOP pollster’s legs ‘shaking’ after Trump focus group

Republican pollster Frank Luntz reported wobbly legs after hearing from a group of Donald Trump supporters, according to TIME.

Luntz conducted a focus group of 29 people from Washington, D.C. and its suburbs that either like or adore the GOP front-runner, paying each participant for the more than two-hour session Monday night, the magazine reported.

“I used to sleep on my front porch with the door wide open, and now everyone has deadbolts,” one man said during the session, according to TIME. “I believe the best days of the country are behind us.”

“I’m frustrated beyond belief. I feel like I’ve been lied to,” a woman said. “Nothing’s getting better.”

“We know his goal is to make America great again,” another woman said. “It’s on his hat. And we see it every time it’s on TV. Everything that he’s doing, there’s no doubt why he’s doing it: it’s to make America great again.”

After the group watched recordings of Trump's political flip flops and remarks on women, the individuals reportedly said they liked Trump even more.

“You guys understand how significant this is?” Luntz asked reporters, according to TIME. “This is real. I’m having trouble processing it. Like, my legs are shaking.”

“I want to put the Republican leadership behind this mirror and let them see. They need to wake up. They don’t realize how the grassroots have abandoned them,” Luntz continued. “Donald Trump is punishment to a Republican elite that wasn’t listening to their grassroots.”

Luntz conducted a focus group aired live on Fox News immediately following the first GOP debate early this month, finding mostly negative views of Trump – then also the front-runner.

Trump then went to Twitter to attack Luntz as "a low class slob" who "picks anti-Trump panels!"

TIME reported that most people in the room Monday night are angry about national security, including the nation's porous southern border with Mexico, and complained about the U.S. falling behind in the world.

People in the room also panned Congress. But when asked to describe Trump, they used words such as "tough," "successful," "has guts" and "kicks ass and takes names.

a group of Donald Trump supporters

So, don't anyone ever tell me again that Luntz doesn't know how to pick groups the way he wants to. His group debate night was a posse of partisans out to uphold the status quo.

“Donald Trump is punishment to a Republican elite that wasn’t listening to their grassroots.”

Luntz just figured it out. And pooped his pants.

That’s a first class lesson in hypocrisy right there. Gingrich lost his credibility with me when he killed the only portion of the Contract With America that would have made any real difference to the ruling elite. He did not even let a term limit proposal reach the floor of congress.

The grassroots have abandoned them

So the GOPe thinks it's their job to decide what is good for this country and the citizens should blindly follow along? LOL Surprise!

Seriously? Lunette’s legs are shaking because people like Trump? I thought this guy was supposed to be the expert on public opinion or at least understand it.

I’m still voting for Cruz.

When you do, you may also be voting for Trump. I see them as a possible ticket.

You’re right. My friends and acquaintances are nearly uniform in their support of Trump for exactly the reasons you wrote. Some days I agree!

Mostly though, I’m uneasy about him. I’m a gal who was able to vote for Reagan twice, so clearly am “older”...but here’s the thing- I never wondered what Reagan believed or what drove him. He saw us as a great and good country and focused on giving us the chance to become more so.

Trump, instead, focuses on what a great and good guy HE is, and will therefore, MAKE us great again.

Reagan called to our best.

Trump calls us to him.

Another Chris Matthews. Where has he been since about 1990. Answer, the same place the GOP has been. Who needs grassroots, anyway

People in my family that have never been interested in politics before are going nuts over Donald Trump’s candidacy. He really tapped into something here and I believe we are about to experience a political earthquake like nothing we’ve seen in our lifetime.

Why is this old article being recycled?

The grassroots did NOT abandon the GOPe. It was the exact opposite.

" ... They don't realize how the grassroots have abandoned them," Luntz continued.
In part because Luntz kept telling the GOP that it had widespread support. Well Frank, you sure fooled them!

The GOP knows the public sentiment. It has feelers out continuously, and gets plenty of unsolicited criticism. It KNOWS the people are angry, but has reliably been able to pull the "other party is worse" card, and induce people to support the GOP on the basis that the GOP is "marginally better."

In general, "marginally better" is good enough. That is, until an alternative "much better" comes along.

Since the 2014 mid-term, more of Obama’s agenda has passed and been supported by Republican majorities in both houses than was passed when Reid/Dems had the Senate majority. Reid obstructed Obama more than McConnell has. Just what the hell did the Republican establishment think would happen? Did they think the base would give them a participation trophy and vote for them again? Boehner and McConnell have in absolutely no meaningful way represented the people who voted for Republicans nationwide.

It’s a new article that references a previous focus group, but is about a focus group Luntz just conducted.

Geez.

“I want to put the Republican leadership behind this mirror and let them see. They need to wake up. They don’t realize how the grassroots have abandoned them,” Luntz continued.

Abandoned? Really? The Elite snobs in Washington have been kicking sand in our face going back to Trent (Vacant) Lott and Bob Dole. It went subsonic when Dubya was elected and Idiots like Dana Perino and Karl Rove pushed the agenda.

Fact is the Republican Establishment has gone over the cliff, attached to a wagon driven by the Chamber of Commerce/ Wall Street/Agribusiness.

If the Republican Establishment wanted the Southern Border closed up tight they would have done in years ago. John Boehner has been known to hand out campaign checks to members in the well of the House just before a vote. They don't. They want cheap labor, open borders and live off the HUGE campaign donations those entities hand out.

There was a segment a week or two ago on The Five where Dana Perino was pointing her bitchy finger at others when ranting about Trump's Immigration policy saying 'Then you got tell a family they have to leave because there parents are illegal'. I wanted to reach into the TV and grab that arrogant Bitch by the throat and tell her, "Then you go tell these thousands of American Families they have to accept their Family members being brutally killed by these animals."

These Elitists will not change, they will only get more desperate in their attacks. Because in their mind they are the only ones that know what should be done. There is no debating with them, they are in fact Liberals. They have accepted the liberal philosophy and their tactics.

I hear things all the time like “Trump isn’t a conservative!”

Apparently, neither are all the pro-life, anti-obamacare “conservatives” we elected to Congress and the Senate last year. They have done zero to repeal obamacare, reign in Obama’s unconstitutional power grabs and they refuse to defund Planned Parenthood even after the horrific videos exposed just how evil that organization is. What good is it to elect solidly pro-life, anti-obamacare republicans who will not do anything to keep their campaign promises? Why even bother to have any conservative litmus test if the republicans we elect are guaranteed to act like democrats once they get to DC? Trump cannot possible be as bad a liar as the majority of republicans in Congress. At least Trump won’t act like a wimp. The GOP either needs to change radically or be burnt down, I hope the Trump thing wakes them up a bit.
