Scott Walker falls flat on his face
The Washington Post ^ | August 24, 2015 | Dana Milbank

This is what happens when you try to trump the Donald.

Scott Walker has for two decades won primary elections by refusing to allow any Republican to outmaneuver him on the right. So when Donald Trump, father of the Central Park ice rink, began skating circles around the Republican presidential field with his perfect execution of hard-line conservative positions, the Wisconsin governor tried to keep up by attempting more daring ideological leaps.

But in recent days, Walker has spun himself into a triple axel — and landed on his face.

First, asked by NBC’s Kasie Hunt whether he supported ending birthright citizenship — a constitutional principle in place since the Civil War era — Walker said: “I think that’s something we should, yeah, absolutely, going forward.”

Later, asked by CNBC’s John Harwood to clarify his position, Walker retreated. “I’m not taking a position on it one way or the other” until the border is secured, he said.

Finally, on Sunday, Walker said without qualification that he would not seek to repeal the 14th Amendment, which grants citizenship to those born on American soil....

He’s done.
It’s Trump, Cruz, and Bush.

And if there’s a competitive Clinton-Biden primary series, Bush is done too.

It sounds as though the inner circle that Walker relies on either has no conservatives, inept conservatives or Walker is choosing to ignore his conservatives. No situation is good in that case and he’ll suffer for it.

Re leaving the decision on homo marriage to the states: According to the 10th Amendment, it has ALWAYS been the right of the states. It’s been pantywaist state governors who capitulated and surrendered that right by wimping out.

Walker couldn’t even decide if Obama loved this country or not after Guliani opened the door on that question. If he can’t figure that one out.....

It’s Trump, Cruz, and Bush.

I’d add Rubio. Maybe Fiorina and Kasich since they could get big GOPe backing.

After Bush crashes the GOPe will try to scam us with a “compromise” candidate. That would be Rubio most likely. There will be two camps then. Cartel busters (Cruz and Trump) and GOPe types (everybody else).

Walker has no inner circle - Walker relies on Walker.

It has worked for him to this point, but now he is swimming in bigger seas and is overwhelmed.

Walker seems to faltering, i believe it’s because they think that the electorate in governors races are different than presidential races, also he was governor while destroying the lefts government union bosses gravy train. He isn’t acting now he’s talking and those are to different things. He should come out saying what he did for Wisconsin he will do for america i.e. destroy the government public union. There is no more hated enemy than government public unions and the massive power they have been given by the pols. They should all be fired and there agency’s closed forever.

So when I post from The Nation, Politico, TNR, Ring Of Fire, CBS or whatever I'm their new BFF? Or only when your ox is gored? LOL

2DV didn't write this column, CW, the press did. Are you REALLY BFF's with every author of every article that you post? Should I start searching your threads?

I agree. Walker is a good governor but that’s his limit.

The only thing Scott Walker ever had going for him in the presidential race was hype. There is not much substance. He’s a regional candidate and it never translates well into the national scene.

Yikes! Rubio gang of eight? Kasick with the appeal of a turnip? And Fiorina has no traction at all.

If I had to expand the list of three I'd add Carson, but he has no chance either.

The reason the Left, Trump, the GOP-e and all of Walker's opponents are ginning up this controversy is to take out the one guy who has the best chance.

Have you noticed how they tightly edit what Walker said to the reporter as they were walking though the fair, in a gaggle of media asking him questions from everywhere? Then they go on to editorialize about what Walker meant.

Walker has stated his position but the media is hot to take out the guy who took down the unions.

It's HEADLINE news gang!

It appears that the “media” interpreted Walker’s answer to a question and made it a headline.

Then they said he had to clarify (the media’s mistake).

So now the story becomes that Walker changed his mind.

Interesting how that works.

As Scott Walker has stated, "going forward" no amnesty, we seal the border (using all options), enforce the laws, remove the magnets (6 months - June 2011- into his 1st term Walker was the first and only governor to revoke instate tuition for illegals, secure jobs for American citizens [legal immigration must also be adjusted down], E-verify and then look at other options. And this is about more than illegal immigration, it's about national security.
