That Time Donald Trump Had A Meeting With DREAMers And Said "You Convinced Me" On Immigration

Two years ago, Trump met with immigration activists who told them their stories and asked for his support on immigration. "You convinced me" Trump said as the meeting ended.

On an August day two years ago, Donald Trump was in a much different place: He was just a billionaire with the simple goal of connecting his beauty pageant business with the upcoming Hispanic Heritage Awards.

So at his New York penthouse office atop Trump Tower, he convened a meeting.

Trump ushered in a pair of men - one to talk about the awards and a Democratic strategist who works with nonprofits - and three young DREAMer activists. ...

But he also kept asking, "Can't you just become a citizen if you want to?" No, we can't the activists said, there's no process for that. Trump was reflective, the activists sad.

"You know, the truth is I have a lot of illegals working for me in Miami," he told them, using the term for undocumented immigrants those in the meeting found offensive.

...

"At the end of the day, what we're looking at is a value proposition for America," Tijerino said to Trump at the end of the meeting, referring to immigration legislation.

"You've convinced me," Trump said to the delight of the activists in the room.

"We all smiled at each other and said, 'Wow, we did it, we got this guy to change his mind," Pacheco said. Two years later they see a showman just playing to the crowd.

Here’s a prediction. Two years after Trump is prez and Cruz VP, the wall will be built.

All the establishment Republicans will take credit for always having supported a wall. I can see this coming 10 miles away.

Then when Trump straightens out the immigration mess including getting rid of anchor babies the same establishment Republicans will claim credit for that too.

It will be disgusting.

I'm desperately trying to figure out how your ‘worst case’ viewpoint on how Trump will be in office is any more awful that Romney's record? Romney was so eager to use federal mandates against us he even babbled about it during the SC debate in 2008. In 2012, I mean, really, obviously no one believed he was going to dismantle ObamaCare.

Honestly, Trump Kool-Aid tastes just like Romney, McCain, Bush, Dole, & Bush Kool-Aid.

My viewpoint is rather simple: A national cheerleader is awesome, I think Trump would be good at that. I don't see him actually getting much agenda pushed through, especially since both parties will ‘hate’ him.

I see him being extremely positive on appointing a slate of people throughout government who aren't the speaker's great niece or gay lover but actually qualified for the job. I also would expect him to fire those who don't perform, especially since they aren't protected by being some politician's wife or husband. And really, this, alone, is worth it for me to support Trump, and continue donating to Cruz with a distant eye on Walker as a fall back choice.

Who are you pushing for? Seems like all your activity recently has been just to ‘open people's eyes’ to ‘just how bad Trump is’ - guess everyone needs a hobby, but aside from being anti-Trump, who are you actively supporting?

“Trump has stated he wants to make the good ones legal... But they have to go through the process. Everyone has to get in line. The bad ones don’t come in.

There is no “ evolution “ here, only another slanted hit piece”

You stated it quite well.

Trump has not denied this attack on him by the Dreamer activists like he normally does. So...I would not usually put any stock in anything from liberal racists, but maybe it is true.

The Republicans have broken all their promises. there is no reason they won’t again. I have nothing to lose by going with Trump.

Except to be lied to again.

Not one of you can see that Trump probably does not support amnesty or whatever he was convinced about by the trespassers any more than he supports what he is saying to the crowds now.

He says what he must to get the job done. Right now, that is to win the GOP nomination. Next will be to win the general election.

Trump's Art of the Deal: Get it in writing or it is worthless.

Romney has never been for universal care for the entire country...Trump mumbled something about it a few weeks ago. I don’t care for Romney one bit, but you’re on faulty footing using this as a Trump message.

Not really weird at all manc.. you see, Trump is a horrible candidate and some freepers dont have the wool pulled over their eyes and, being the nice enlightened people that they are, want to clear up your vision so that you can truly see.

I certainly appreciate the things he’s done for Veterans but that doesn’t cover the inconsistency in his actions and positions, you may have pointed out one in which he has been consistent, that doesn’t make up for the others.

You state “What IS WRITTEN about what he says doesn’t matter.” and “What he does matters.”

What’s written about him doesn’t matter? It matters a whole hell of a lot if it’s true and even if isn’t it should matter that some are liars. His actions do matter but it all needs to be weighed and I can’t see the scale tilting towards someone I can trust with the future of our country.
