The new student arrived at Penn’s Wharton business school in 1966, driving a Ford convertible and sporting a mop of blond hair as outsized as his ambitions. A junior transfer from Fordham University in the Bronx, the young man was an outsider on the Ivy League campus in Philadelphia, with few friends.

But that did not temper his swagger.

When a professor asked students in his small class why they had chosen to study real estate, the new student stood up.

“I’m going to be the king of New York real estate.”

The professor peered over his tortoiseshell glasses and said, “What’s your name, son?” View Story Trump’s surge is historic

Trump is the personification of a 21st-century America fascinated by the super rich and obsessed with celebrity, historians said.

We’ve seen Trump’s theatrics before — on reality TV Trump spectacle comes at a cost

“I am Donald Trump.”

The other students in the small class rolled their eyes.

“Sit down, you [expletive],” Louis Calomaris recalled thinking, with a laugh. “That was our introduction to Donald Trump.”

The brash, blunt, and sometimes bombastic personality that has helped Trump upend the early stages of the 2016 Republican presidential primary campaign -- and which has been a hallmark of his business and reality TV entertainment careers -- was already in full bloom during his college years, according to more than a dozen Wharton classmates interviewed by the Globe.

By his own admission, he was an aggressive brat, even talking back to his parents - something that prompted his father to get him enrolled in military school.

So Trump has more military experience than Barry (and all of the other candidates)?

(and apparently didn’t give any free haircuts, wonder what, if anything the BSG is holding back for October?)

Maybe Trump has an option on the BSG’s parent company?

Very interesting article. I can see why Trump is such a financial success. He knew what he wanted to achieve and he was willing to work extremely hard to make it happen. A real American success story.

Good personal back ground

He punched his music teacher. I can relate to that I just corrected mine”s mistakes and eventually walked out.

Interesting that he lived in really ratty apartments while at Penn. He probably bought the buildings so he could renovate them.

LOVED the part about Don slugging his music teacher, but sorry, the article is still a subtle hit piece.

Didn’t win honors, didn’t join a bunch of campus groups, never donated a building with his name, blah, blah, blah.

They’re pissed cuz he’s IN their world but not really OF their world.

Smart enough to get in, but too smart to really embrace it —exactly where I like my guy.
