The officer didn’t arrest the fool for flipping her off. She merely used the stupid behavior as a clue that there was something badly wrong with the fellow’s behavior, and chose to investigate further. Her intuition was indeed justified.

My sister is a cop in another town. I happened to see her in a school parking lot one day and waved at her. She didn’t even notice me. Later, she told me she has developed a filter for waves and the like. “Too many middle fingers” and it’s best just to ignore them.

Why are the cops different? Are they the more equal pigs on the Animal Farm?

Once upon a time, police had to pass certain requirements of size, weight, and strength -- which are now illegal because "sexism". That means situations like this one which a big, tough cop could shut down with a gesture, can easily get out of hand with a girl "cop" who lacks the intimidating personal presence and must escalate to weapon use (taser/cuffs/sidearms) to stay in control.

Of course, without the constant drumbeat of the media attempting to incite racial violence against the police, there would be nothing to see here anyway.

Disturbing the peace. Still a crime in most jurisdictions. What level of disturbance rises to illegal is up to a judge and jury, but it’s up to the cop to determine if that meeting should be arranged.

If someone is flipping the bird to random people or specifically to a cop, then stopping them to see if they are drunk, high, or batty isn’t a stretch.

Actually if you read the links I provided you would have seen that the courts ruled that it is a stretch for a cop to pull someone over just because they flipped the cop the bird.
