By what authority does the USSC declare that “same-sex couples may exercise the fundamental right to marry in all States.” Be specific.

I have a feeling that somehow they are looking to establish a precedent.

Could be....but maybe this is our responsibility/opportunity to establish the precedent in a way they'll never try this again.

The wonderful elastic amendment number 14, section 1, “equal protection.” See “abortion on demand.”

No surprise. They found a thrice-divorced serial adulterer and turned her into the key figure in the fight over marriage. It's a total set-up, and people are falling for it hook, line, and sinker.

The responsibility here is in the legislatures, state and federal. And they will continue doing business as usual and too few will draw the connection between their actions or lack thereof and consequences like this.

This is Idiocracy come to life, the end point of ignorance and decadence combined with representative government. This mess is what voters in both parties have voted for for generations now, and everyone throwing a tantrum about it is demonstrating a refusal to accept the responsibility that comes with self-determination. Why, even on this very thread people are rabidly demanding that government should have the power it is now abusing, and at the same time taking no responsibility for the inevitable result of having granted it that power.

Well, if we had a rehearsal, I missed it. Why are we always caught flat-footed?

GO Jay Sekulow!!

I sympathize, but I would be surprised to see the ACLJ try to litigate this. It's civil disobedience, and (as Davis has stated) there is a price tag.

Sobering thought although this particular LEO is a Federalista and not a local.

No matter. They will all follow orders, along with the military, as pointed out by DL. At this point, the County Sheriff should be leading the charge to get her out of jail, and be backed by the local militia. There should be THOUSANDS of armed Christians knocking down the jail doors at this point.

No one requires her to perform the marriage.

Is this like saying her hand won't be on the gas chamber valve? Just issued the tattoo is all. Right?

Would that we could claim no involvement in evil acts, but I don't have enough sophistry in my soul to get away with it.

By the authority of the violence at its command and the absolute refusal of the other branches of government to exercise the checks and balances against it, and the repeated certification of this behavior by voters who vote the same idiots into Congress every single election cycle at a rate of 95% or more.

This country chucked “Rule of Law” in the garbage long ago, so now we have the rule of violence.

Having spent decades trying to get people to recognize the importance of the rule of law and failing against every tide of mob passion that has washed over the country since, all I can do at this situation is shake my head at the insanity demonstrated by everyone involved. People often assume that in a conflict one party is right and the other is wrong, and never consider that both parties are wrong.

I know you didn't ask me, but much of it comes from the 14th amendment. A horrible screw up if there ever was one. It is the source for much abuse in our judiciary nowadays.

All she is being asked to do is certify the people applying meet the requirements set by the law.

And that is one of the problems. The laws that set the requirements for who is allowed to marry were overturned by judicial fiat. But no new laws have been passed to take their place. So how can she certify something for which no law currently exists?
