Expressing his admiration for a high school student's curiosity about science, President Obama has invited Ahmed Mohamed to the White House.
Ahmed Mohamed, 14, was handcuffed and taken away from his school in Irving, Texas, earlier this week after school officials grew suspicious of a digital clock he had made in a pencil case over the weekend.

I think it was confiscated. The pencil box looked more like a small briefcase from what I understand. So if you saw a small briefcase with a clock or timer on it, what would be the first thing to come to mind?
Sure looks like the kid just built a digital clock and the school and cops seriously overreacted.
But bringing the kid to the White House to use him as a prop is just pure opportunism. Give him a personalized behind the scenes tour of Canaveral or Johnson or one of the other NASA centers with some engineers or astronauts, or a free session at Space Camp in Huntsville. It’ll mean a lot more to him.

Man this sends a terrible message.... The police and teachers are still not convinced this was an innocent incident and Obama is in effect saying “you are wrong”

I would think it’s a bomb too. Did Obama invite the kid that bit off a pastry and the school thought it was the shape of a gun?
Looks like it could be used as a timer for one, but there's nothing there that looks like a charge.
The FBI should be all over Dad’s computer & emails.
Somehow, the kid biting the poptart into a gun is considered by Obama, et al, as more of a “threat” than
AHMED MOHAMED
and a device that looks very much like a bomb.
And, yes, his religion and ethnicity did
AND SHOULD
play into that suspicion.

Next visit to the White-House will be a muslim girl who brought her pomegranate/walnut soup, in a pressure cooker, to school because she’s such a culinary genius.
According to the article that’s linked to in the posted article, sweet young Ahmed dismantled an existing clock and reassembled it inside a pencil case, with the whole device looking like a small briefcase. Well, duh, he created a device that looked like a duck and waddled like a duck, and the school authorities and cops thought it was a duck!!! He wasn’t being creative building a digital clock, he was deliberately building a dummy bomb.

If his teacher didn't report him, I'd have a problem with her/him.
I'd probably think it could be used for a bomb. I'd be looking for a blasting cap or some other kind of detonator, and a main charge before I was ready to say it is a bomb.
