The White House did not immediately provide any reason for the lockdown, however, reports from the scene indicate a suspicious package was found in Lafayette Park.

The park is across the street from the White House. Park and Pennsylvania avenues have been closed as a result of the incident. The Washington D.C. fire department is on the scene, as are bomb technicians.
