The Darién Gap is 160km by 50km of jungle in Southern Panama and Northern Columbia, filled with wasps, snakes, drug dealers and FARC guerrillas and, no roads! No way could a VW Microbus filled with a family cross this piece of land! Good point. Road trip, pilgrimage or whatever you want to call, they had a goal and they achieved it. It is very satisfying and memorable for their family. I just hope that, when the vacation’s over, they return to their home.
