Donald Trump: Let Russia fight the Islamic State in Syria
the Washington Post ^ | September 25, 2015 | Jena Johnson

Posted on 09/26/2015 4:34:57 AM PDT by McGruff

Donald Trump accused his Republican presidential rivals on Friday night of wanting to "start World War III over Syria," and suggested that the United States should instead let Russia deal with the problem.

Trump has recently faced criticism for not providing details on what sort of foreign policy positions he would take as president. That lack of specifics is purposeful and strategic, Trump said during a 50-minute speech at the Great State Fair of Oklahoma on Friday night. He said Republicans who publicly share their strategic foreign policy plans are "crazy."

Eventually there will be stress from a secular Syria/Russia alliance and the Islamic push from Turkey, Iraq and Iran.

The Syria/Russia alliance will have a satellite state in Lebanon. Iran will have one in Iraq and Turkey may subsume a piece of its own out of Iraq.

Turkey is a faithless ally. That’s part of the formula.

Just thank the stars that Egypt managed to recover from Obama’s Arab spring.

That’s because you’re used to the polished smoke and mirrors of today’s high wire politicians. You’re not used to the thinking of the vulgar, but majority crowd.

The Assad dynasty and Syria have been clients of the Soviet Union and now Russia since the 1960’s, i.e. over fifty years. So it wouldn’t exactly represent “one more”. But it does put actual Russian forces, not just Syrian clients, on the southeast border of NATO (Turkey) and the northeast border of Israel. And it demonstrates to all the other Arab states that Russia is a regional player to be reckoned with and, unlike Obama, can be relied upon to recognize and support its friends. They’re filling a vacuum created by Obama’s disastrous policy of supporting crypto-radical Islamic forces against established governments which, however nasty, were at least rational.

hope we can get someplace

I'm an avid Trump fan, too. Look what he's already done, waking up US citizens.

I wonder if he'd really be unhappy if one of the conservatives stepped up and met the standard he's setting. It's a shame some of those who have some potential won't speak and think for themselves instead of getting bad advice from consultants. I'll include Cruz as one who has to do better, about those trade deals and about a more nuanced, independent foreign policy.

Russian soldiers don’t have the insane restrictions of Obama’s rules of engagement , so they will be successful.

A common enemy makes friends, and I welcome them to the fight.

But the Russians didn't too well against Afghanistan.

Never understood why toppling Assad was good for the US? Dictatorships are the only thing that works in Islamic countries.

Pray America is waking

I listened to his speech on OAN, and I agree with him...

We sent how many troops into Iraq and Afghanistan and how did that help? We got Saddam, Bush wanted that for his father because of Desert Storm...ok..now look at Iraq, they are making deals with Iran...

Why send our boys, husbands, fathers back to war with Syria? Send Obuma and shillary and holder, they are the ones that shipped guns thru Benghazi to Syria....and if Russia is there, great, let them fight it...

We don't have to fight a war all the time in the world..right now we have a fight to get America back on her feet after the crappy mess obuma has us in...let's fight for America this time.....

What he’s talking about is how obama told the enemy exactly how he was going to handle a crisis. You don’t ever give them that information via the media. obama has even made the statement that he didn’t have a plan. What does that tell our enemies? It’s smart to have a plan, but not broadcast it - the media will spew it for the whole world to hear. Trump is smart on this and I agree with it.

If this is an example of the "thinking" of the "majority crowd," "vulgar" or not, count me out.

It reads to me like the blustering of someone who doesn't know crap about the subject matter, but wants to cover that ignorance up the best they can.

A candidate for the highest office in the land, the office that bears the title "Commander-in-Chief," doesn't have to give the particulars of every policy, or tell the world everything he may or may not do, but he should be able to communicate to the American people and to the world the principles upon which his actions will be guided.

As with so many other areas of public policy, Trump seems not to have any sort of firm, fixed set of principles to guide him. That's a dangerous recipe for a diffused, arbitrary mish-mash sort of foreign policy. One that is likely to cost far more than we can afford, both in terms of treasure and blood.

shallow thinking

it was obama’s cowardly retreat that enabled all the current mess

“Russian soldiers don’t have the insane restrictions of Obama’s rules of engagement , so they will be successful.”

Very true.

Nor the straight jacket of political correctness, which is absolutely inappropriate in a war situation.

Incoherent is what I’m hearing from the McCain-Rubio-Kerry crowd. Getting rid of Assad while claiming we need to fight ISIS makes no sense. Claiming we could destroy them both with 5500 newly trained dentists and lawyers, or whoever these supposed moderates were is nuts. Not expecting them to do exactly what they did, turn over theier weapons and pledge allegiance to Al Qaeda is incoherent.

Letting ISIS and Russia/Assad fight each other makes all the sense in the world.

When was Syria ever not a Russian client?

When did the American public ever get a vote on waging a war in Syria?
When did The younger Assad in office since 2000 ever pose a clear and present danger to the USA? And all this beng orchestrated by the same rat idiots who chanted “ Bush lied” about Saddam Hussein being a threat

Topling Assad isn’t good for the US. Neither was getting rid of Saddam of Qaddafi. ISIS was formed from this madness and Iran empowered. These people need a strong arm dictator to keep them in line. After years of hashing this over and initially supported the Iraq war I realize now it was a mistake. You cant help these people. Their Islamic mindset is completely alien to western thought processes. Sadly the only way to deal with them is to kill them wholesale and keep them in line, aka dictators.

There will be another in his series of published position papers. Donald is a smart guy who does his homework, changes course when he finds out the situation demands it to achieve the desired outcome , assembles smart teams of advisors as he did for his immigration paper and his 2d amendment paper

So far we haven't seen or heard who is on his foreign policy and military adviser team. I hope John Bolton and General Jack Keane among others

Syria is already a Russian client, and has been for generations. Trump is correct. Let Russians kill ISIS, and if Russians die in the process - win/win.

I'll bet some of the retards here who want the U.S. to invade Syria are the same retards who were upset that homobama drew a red line and wanted to go to war.

I'd love to know who they think the U.S. is going to go to war with. It won't be ISIS, not with the homo muslime we have in the white hut. The Russians are fighting ISIS. homo wants to bomb Assad. And then there are the "moderate" muslime rebels.

If America needs to nuke anybody it's the Saudis.

Perhaps you've summed up where Trump's unprincipled, arbitrary incoherence inevitably leads better than Trump has.
