HosePipe, Reagan was able to prevail because he could look the camera in the lens, and make people identify with his policies. He was referred to as the Great Communicator.
I don’t think Cruz is anywhere near that effective. You need to be to turn things around. >IMO

In another time, Trump could have been considered a "Reagan democrat", when he was registered as one.
That he has broad support from both sides shows he has struck a chord in many heart, that of taking the fight to them.

That appears to be the best outcome at present. A Constitutional anchor for Trump, whose instincts appear good in general but he’s not strong on specifics. Cruz shines there, but has not shone on the campaign trail for whatever reason, remaining mired in mid-pack. We could do far worse than pairing the natural star who is right on quite a few of the issues and problems of the day, with Cruz to provide Constitutional grounding and expertise in dealing with Congress.
