LETTER: We want candidates who can deliver in office, not ones with bulleted lists
boston globe ^ | SEPTEMBER 26, 2015

Posted on 09/26/2015 9:37:34 PM PDT by BlackFemaleArmyColonel

BEING A New Hampshire resident, and a hard target for 2016 presidential hopefuls, I have been reading more and more articles on the qualities and shortcomings of Donald Trump. Like many Americans, I considered Trump as someone who was spoiled by wealth, and from an early age, and I took him about as seriously as others take his hair. Recent articles in the media have made me reconsider those assumptions.

I don’t support his views on immigration and basic civil rights, but I do recognize his ability to solve business problems and paralyze political opposition. The media, on the other hand, continue to criticize him for a lack of detail, and demand the requisite candidate manifesto — the so-called multipoint plan — that will solve all our social and political ills.

I began my young engineering career in the Apollo program. I don’t recall President Kennedy or anyone else releasing a multipoint plan to get to the moon by the end of the decade. It required trust in a leader’s ability and a massive bureaucracy of thoughtful people working toward a goal.

We need to find elected officials, whether Trump or someone else, who can solve our problems when in office, and not candidates who spoon-feed bullet points to anxious journalists.

"We want candidates who can deliver in office, not ones with bulleted lists"

I agree.

It is Trump who is the ONLY candidate who will be able to deliver as President!

This is exactly what I’ve been saying. Trump has a record of action - the others have bullet points.

>>>I don’t support his views on immigration and basic civil rights<<<

Would someone, anyone please tell me what that means?

I get that the Author wants Open Borders (moron), but what does he mean by “basic human rights”?

Did Trump threaten to take basic human rights away from anyone except ISIS? I must have missed that one.

All Trump HAS is Bullet points.. ALL TALK..
He hasn’t proved what he is willing to do...
No vetting.. no testing, no history except for the BAD HISTORY..

He is brag at this point.. no political action..
Much like Obama when he was RUNNING as a candidate...
BIG words.. which he promptly did the opposite of.. i.e. Obama..

TRUMP could be the same.. and then; blame it all on Congress..
like: ____________ well you know..

MUCH faith in Donald Trump.. almost religious faith..
I’m not very Pope-ish it seems..

> “ I considered Trump as someone who was spoiled by wealth, and from an early age, ...”

Donald Trump was put to work by his father Fred every weekend scrubbing or replacing toilets, painting and restoring apartments and homes.

When Donald was a boy he had behavioral problems so his father Fred sent him to a military academy to straighten him out.

Fred earned his wealth working his butt off and made his kids do the same especially Donald.

Donald took a few million his father put him in charge of as an investment and turned it into billions.

I don’t think Donald was ever spoiled by wealth. I think he created wealth.

And Donald’s children have to work their butts off just like their father did and their grandfather did.

Wealth is a product of their hard work. They were never allowed to be slackers.

I figure he was just laying down some suppressive fire to protect his left flank before advancing to say something un-PC.

Huh? Is “massive bureaucracy” in the same sentence with
“Thoughtful people” an oxymoron?

“All Trump HAS is Bullet points.. ALL TALK..”

Trump has achieved no legislative successes.

He claims that he will do things, but has no record of getting bills passed.

The president isn’t a dictator who can order stuff done.

We need a candidate who has a proven ability to make government work.

Whats not said is maybe his running for president is conniving..
If electing a conniver would do.. Newt Gingrich is the best..

NOPE.. I’m going with a straight shooter.. Cruz..

There may be some freeper connivers.. that feel warm and snuggly with a fellow conniver..

Thats not me..

And how has the one term Senator, Constitutional scholar that has never done anything outside government but can wax eloquently and is beholden to special interests worked out for us?

We need a candidate who has a proven ability to make government work.

We need a candidate who has a proven desire to make government SMALLER.

That isn't Trump. His main message is we need to put better people in charge of running the government. The basic philosophy of liberalism is that we'll put smart people in charge of centrally planning our society who know better than the rest of us. Conservatism says that we'll shrink government and take its powers away because the people know best how to run their own lives.

Granted, I'll give Trump that he's said he'll let education be run locally. But that's why that's one of the 40% or so positions where he gets a solid conservative rating. Much of his message has nothing to do with saying government is the problem as Reagan did. It's all about saying the people running the government are the problem and he wants to put better people in charge. That's not the solution. If we don't dismantle the bureaucracy when we have the chance, liberals will simply use it to hammer our lives once they inevitably get control of it again.

He's been a smashing, stellar success for liberals. Find me a liberal who thinks Obama is doing a bad job and who wouldn't vote him in for a third term. Obama's court appointments alone have entrenched more radical liberal policy into de facto law than we've seen enacted in our lifetimes.

We need a staunch conservative ideologue in the White House to reverse what Obama's done and etch conservative policy into stone. We don't need someone who's making up his philosophy as he goes and winging it. It takes someone with the same laser focus on ideology that Obama has to unravel everything he's done. No one else will be able to root out what he's done and consistently hit the mark.

Obama also has an incredible focus on the long-term, such as how mass immigration will give his party votes for decades to come. It takes a true ideologue to have that kind of long-term vision. Cruz is the only one who truly understands the difference between the right and left and how it is intertwined in every single issue.
