The classic definition of chutzpah — the guy who murders his parents and then begs for mercy because he’s an orphan — gets a rewrite with “Truth,” a movie insisting forged documents are real.
Robert Redford, making no effort to look or sound like Dan Rather, plays the CBS newsman ruined after he presented obviously forged documents about George W. Bush’s Texas Air National Guard service.
It was September 2004, two months before Bush was to be re-elected in a race against John Kerry, and Rather producer Mary Mapes is desperate for a scoop.
Researchers sent out to find information damaging to Bush contact everyone in the chain of command during Bush’s National Guard days. (In one unintentionally revealing moment, co-written and directed by The Amazing Spider-Man's James Vanderbilt, Mapes is shown watching a Swift Boat Veteran TV commercial, showing a complete lack of interest in their stories.)
Mapes found squirrely retired National Guard colonel Bill Burkett, who gave her photocopied memos purportedly showing Bush had been AWOL, and whose font and spacing perfectly matched default settings on a 21st-century Microsoft Word program.
Two of CBS’s own document experts raised doubts about them. Bush hater Burkett agreed to hand over the documents on condition that Mapes put him in touch with the John Kerry campaign, which he wanted to assist. Mapes and Rather ran with the story anyway, defending it for days.
“Truth” is based on Mapes’ memoir, “Truth and Duty: The Press, the President, and the Privilege of Power.” Mapes, who hasn’t worked in TV news since the scandal, and Rather insist to this day they were right, and Rather even sued CBS for breach of contract. The lawsuit was laughed out of court — in much the same way that “Truth” will be laughed out of theaters.

Liberals/progressives are impervious to evidence. If the facts contradict their narrow little ideology, then the facts are WRONG!
What progressives (lefties) believe about “truth”:
1. “You can lie about any number of things and still be considered an honest person.”
2. Truth is whatever serves The party.
3. If you repeat something often enough, it becomes true.
Imagine if conservatives could dictate what Hollywood puts out.
The forged documents ARE real. They are not imaginary. They are genuine forged documents. Fake forged documents? How?

When is Hollywood going to make the film about the Clinton’s and all their dead friends and advisers?
Truth is what should be, not what is.

Dan Blather was his protege and like may others followed in his lying footsteps.
Dan Rather now interviews drug-addled rock stars for AXS, a tiny cable channel.
Proportional spacing doesn’t matter.
It was what was in the memos that was conclusive as to their fraud- anachronistic entries, wrong acronyms, lack of knowledge of pertinent regulations.
CBS role in the investigation was to protect CBS because there were criminal liabilities if CBS proved definitively that the memos were frauds.
Hence the CBS claim that the memos could not be conclusively proved false.
I understand that concession stands in theaters showing this are giving out free Kool-Aid with every ticket.
When will Hollywood make the film about Bill Clinton and the women he violently raped?
What is real chutzpah is calling this movie “Truth.”
Better title would be “Delusional.”
That, and they used a standard format that was not adopted until 1993.

I don’t go to the movies but Robert Redford was the cover of the Wall Street Journal quarterly magazine and I have seen other high profile stories about him recently, so I think that this movie mattered a lot of the leftist controlled media.
I still have copies of the CBS documents, the Buckhead stuff, and the results of the experiment that you describe. No doubt at all that the documents were and are for all time forgeries. What is amazing are those who to this day say with a straight face that they concede that the documents are indeed forgeries, but they still prove the allegations against Bush.
