U.S. C-130 Transport Plane Crashes in Afghanistan, Defense Officials Say

A U.S. C-130 transport plane crashed near Jalalabad, Afghanistan, early Friday, two defense officials told NBC News.

The crash happened shortly after midnight local time near Jalalabad Airport. There is no immediate information on how many passengers were on the transport plane or whether there are casualties.

Five of the dead were U.S. service members that were the crew of the aircraft, five were civilian contractors who were passengers, and two were local Afghan civilians who were killed on the ground, NBC News reported.
