“And the next time you’re standing in front of an active shooter who has just murdered a few people next to you, I’m sure you’ll go all Rambo on him and save the day.”

Say that to Chris Mintz!

I like what the Sheriff said about not releasing the perp’s name... Something along the lines of not giving him publicity.

And since the turd specifically targeted Christians, I’d say that he was a raging member of the gaystapo.

I was responding to the idiotic post of someone with the equally idiotic freeper name of "whiskeyx" who said,

Not only are people too stupid to arm themselves and shoot back, they’re also too stupid to rush the shooter as a group rather than stand there like sheep in a slaughterhouse to be killed individually. When are these people going to learn to use some commonsense?

And for you two to defend his statement is equally ignorant.

The murdered victims were college students. Likely very young. I'm sure they had common sense, contrary to what our internet poser said. (Oh, BTW, common sense is two words. Duh.)

And they were in college, so let's not assume they were "stupid." And it's not stupidity that precludes mass heroic response. It's terror.

Until freerepublic's resident internet commando has experienced the same situation (and did what he condemns others for not doing) it's merely mental masturbation.

My educated guess is that he would fold like a cheap suit a behave exactly like the poor people who were murdered.

Either way, I'm not going to read anything else from you three stooges. Every time you post the collective IQ of the internet drops by at least five points.

But, you have a nice day anyway.

I see you have chosen to take it upon yourself to insult all three of us for defending our views. In response, I’ll refute your comments and insults with some real world facts and observations.

“I was responding to the idiotic post of someone with the equally idiotic freeper name of “whiskeyx” who said,....”

First, I’ll respond to your insulting comment about my username, WhiskeyX. As some Freepers may recall from some of my earlier posts, I have already disclosed that my WhiskeyX username was derived from my military service as an Air Force meteorologist. WhiskeyX is another form of the military phonetic alphabet WHISKEY X-RAY or WX, which is the call sign my Army airborne team assigned to me during an operation. WX is the abbreviation used to indicate Weather units and their operations in the Army and Air Force for more than seventy-five years now. Since you seem to think a very mundane military call sign assigned by an Army airborne unit is somehow supposed to be “idiotic” in your words, your comments evidently say far more about your own mental condition than it does that of the Army airborne team who assigned it to me or myself.

“And for you two to defend his statement is equally ignorant.”

Given the many lives U.S. Army veteran Chris Mintz presumably saved by attacking the mass murderer as we advocated, the evidence clearly indicates the ignorant person in this debate is yourself due to your disregard for the actual beneficial outcome of what we advocated.

“The murdered victims were college students. Likely very young. I’m sure they had common sense, contrary to what our internet poser said.”

According to what little we have seen so far in the news reports, some of the students and faculty took some proper defensive precautions, with the example of U.S. Army veteran Chris Mintz being an outstanding example. Unfortunately, the news reports also illustrate how a number of students died without resisting the executions. In previous mass murders in American schools and in the recent attack aboard the French train we have seen some people (arguably too many people) act like sheep or rabbits frozen in fear and make no effort to defend themselves or other more vulnerable women and children against the mass murderer. Being young is no excuse for such inaction. Being terrified, while understandable, is still no excuse for such inaction or fleeing. I once knew some teenage girls who attacked a dangerous bully much larger than they were to protect a young man who had been injured by the bully. They fearlessly went after the bully’s eyes, face, shins, and groin to very good effect. Somehow I don’t see that kind of courage and determination anywhere nearly as frequently among the majority of the “victims” in the mass murders we see today. So, your assertion that they’re being “young” justifies and explains their passivity is entirely contrary to my experience in earlier decades where young women ferociously resisted attackers in disregard for their own safety.

“And they were in college, so let’s not assume they were “stupid.” And it’s not stupidity that precludes mass heroic response. It’s terror.”

Thee was no “assumption,” because the meanings were literal. Your comments imply you are too “ignorant”, using your own words, to understand the definition of the words: stupid and stupidly. Here are some of the relevant Merriam-Webster definitions:

stupid adj. ...to be benumbed, be astonished, be stupefied....

stupefy...vb [stupefi] -ED...to be benumbed, be astonished, be stupefied + facere to make...1a: to make physically stupid, dull, or insensible...b. to blunt or deaden the faculties of perception and understanding of {such a power...enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people —Alexis de Tocqueville}...2. to shock with surprise, astonishment, or consternation: STUN, ASTOUND.

terror n. ...1a: a state of intense fright or apprehension : stark fear....

(Webster’s Third New International Dictionary, Merriam-Webster, p. 2270)

Given the above standard dictionary definitions, it is clearly evident the “terror” you are talking about is defined as “a state of intense fright or apprehension” which quite obviously caused some of the students to be stupid; i.e. “to be benumbed, be astonished, be stupefied” with fear. So, when you deny many of the students in this shooting and other mass shooting acted with stupidity, you contradict your own assertions that these students were affected by the surprise, astonishment, shock, and benumbing fear inherent with an act of terror that defines stupidity from fear.

“Until freerepublic’s resident internet commando has experienced the same situation (and did what he condemns others for not doing) it’s merely mental masturbation.”

Who are you to arrogantly to assume I and/or the others disputing you in this forum have not “experienced the same situation” or some comparable form of terror? My military training and experience included urban CQB training by Army military police and duty assignments conducting operations against domestic terrorism during the major civil disturbances. I’m also confidant others in this forum and perhaps Chris Mintz in Oregon will find your comments to be unwarranted and despicable. You would also do well to stop posting the perverted comments where youngsters read this forum.

“My educated guess is that he would fold like a cheap suit a behave exactly like the poor people who were murdered.”

Your educated guess and its falsity demonstrates just how uneducated and unmannered you are.

“(Oh, BTW, common sense is two words. Duh.)”

There you go flaunting your bottomless depths of ignorance yet again as you flail away at trying on the role of a spelling NAZI. Unfortunately for you and your microscopic credibility, the word has several alternate forms of spelling accepted by the standard English dictionaries; including:

1. common sense
2. common-sense
3. commonsense

The spelling, “commonsense”, is found in Webster’s Third New International Dictionary on page 459. This spelling is also not flagged by the FR spellchecker as I type it here.

So, when you say “Duh”, you inadvertently revealed your own mental state of ignorance.

“Either way, I’m not going to read anything else from you three stooges. Every time you post the collective IQ of the internet drops by at least five points.”

You and your ignorant bigotry won’t be missed.

Thanks for your reply. I sent a message to Jim today explaining I was leaving FR after 11 years because of this poster. I was curious and looked over some of his earlier musings and found them full of venom. It would be embarrassing to admit I was on the same forum as him. I almost wonder if he is one of those folks from that so called church that demonstrates at funerals. But I have decided to stay on because to quit is to give that type of hateful bigotry victory. Thanks again, Lee.

I’m trying to remember the thing on my wife’s facebook page the other night (but unrelated to the shooting). Although I though it fit, something like:

FEAR: F*&^ Everything And Run

or

FEAR: Face Enemy and React

A related and often quoted maxim is “flight or fight”. There are many search results for that search string.

I make no claim and never have, of being brave or courageous. Matter of fact I am terrified of my own shadow. But as fate would have it, I have started down the barrel of a gun twice in my life and my reactions were...interesting. It was almost as if I was watching from a distance. My emotions went from disbelief to fear to pissed off at about that speed. My original post in this thread was not to defend anyone. I merely was hoping to show that while fear can be overwhelming, you can overwhelm your fear. It doesn’t make you “Rambo” or Audie Murphy, just human.
