I don’t agree with Matthews most of the time, but here he absolutely nails it. In essence he’s saying: The reason gov’t doesn’t work is because they are working for their own reelection, rather than doing what’s right for the country. If he isn’t right, one is hard-pressed to make a cogent argument for using your tax dollars to buy cell phones for deadbeats. They are buying votes, period. Immigration? Voter ID’s? Smaller gov’t? You name it. Everything they do is for their own benefit, not ours.

Shocked to say this but Matthews is 100% correct. It is what is wrong with Washington. One side gets elected saying they are for one thing, and one side the other. Once they get there, they talk, give speeches and try to get re-elected. Nothing EVER gets done and if it does it is not in the best interest of the American people. This goes for both sides. I have not faith in the career politicians.

Matthews whole conception of reality is upside down. He’s spent waaaay too much time as a talking head leftist.
He needs to get out to flyover county a little more. That’s where the “genius” is.

What amazes me is how so few people understood that what was needed was a strong forceful articulation of a few big principles....and to hell with those “soccer moms” who might be offended.
The prissy GOP e has always tried to craft messages to make sure they don’t offend anyone’s delicate sensitivities. Trump is the opposite of that, and it’s like a breath of fresh air.
