As weeks without a budget turned into months, Republicans decided to push through a stopgap plan to get money to schools, government agencies and programs while talks on a complete budget deal continued.
Again it was on party lines, again Wolf vetoed it.
"I understand we have divided government," Wolf said. "What I don't understand is people who don't want to govern at all."
A few days later the Republican leaders announced they would give the governor a chance to demonstrate he has the votes for tax increases through a floor vote next week, and Democrats have been scrambling to see whether they can find votes across the aisle for passage.

Of course, the media blames the Republicans for the stalemate. But it’s the tax and spend governor who will not be deterred from raising existing taxes and imposing new ones in the name of “education.”

Ban teacher’s strikes
Reform insane public union pensions
Make the state a right to work state
Tort reform
Reduce the highest in the nation gas taxes
Etc.
Corbett did do something. He raised gas taxes. That’s why during a landslide election for Republicans, Corbett was almost the only one in the country to be thrown out.

The increase is being phased in over multiple years, and the Allegheny Institute for Public Policy, a think tank that says it’s dedicated to rolling back the size of government, calculated that it equals a minimum 27-cent per gallon increase for gas by 2017. The minimum increase would be slightly less than that by 2018.

The cost of Medicaid is not mentioned but was increasing at an unsustainable rate of $400 million per year in PA prior to the state’s Republican Governor agreed to sign on to the Obamacare Medicaid expansion plan. Choosing to extend Medicaid coverage from 1 out of every 6 state residents to 1 out of every 4 residents can only create a significant budget issue.
Notice Medicaid expansion was not mentioned in the article. As a mandatory entitlement, its costs will be covered before roads, bridges, schools, state parks, Plus cost controls on entitlement health care programs have historically had limited success. It is the beneficiary who controls costs by living a health lifestyle (or not) and by choosing to use higher cost or lower cost services (emergency room vs urgent care center for example).
Medicaid will fiscally destroy the states, it is only a matter of time. The states that signed on for ACA expansion will be the first to choke, followed by the rest. States cannot raise enough tax money to provide open ended medical services for 25% of the population. Ultimately, the fiscal squeeze will force local and state politician to demand a federal government funded and operated single payer healthcare system. Medicaid expansion was part of the roadmap to single payer.
The state has been in financial trouble for years, long before Medicaid expansion. So far, raising taxes and implementing new ones has averted complete bankruptcy, but eventually, that strategy is going to fail completely. You can only extort so much money from the taxpayers. If you continue to spend more money than what is coming in, you will go bankrupt.
But the voters in this state continue to elect candidates that promise them the moon, but don’t tell them how much that moon is going to cost them.
When do Republicans like State Rep. Stan Saylor cut a deal with Wolf in Harrisburg like Boehner does with Obama in Washington???? Right before Christmas is my guess.......
He did raise gasoline taxes 28 cents a gallon with Republicans in the legislature supporting Corbett....
We have our indicted Democrat Attorney General Kathleen Kane and Democrat Governor Tom Wolf for a reason the Republicans will never admit-Corbett went after Sandusky and all the fallout from Joe Paterno and Penn State football enraged enough voters who might otherwise vote GOP to vote Democrat.
