No US decision yet on Syria no-fly zone

WASHINGTON (AFP) -

Obama administration officials on Wednesday said the longstanding issue of a no-fly zone in war-torn Syria has been discussed but no decision made.

Washington's NATO ally Turkey, which has more than 1.8 million Syrian refugees on its soil, has argued for months in favor of a no-fly "safe zone" in northern Syria, where refugees could take shelter from the country's bloody civil conflict.

Spokesmen for the State Department and the White House fielded reporters' questions about a CNN report Tuesday that said Secretary John Kerry had asked his staff "to further develop the idea."

CNN said Kerry also raised the issue at a National Security Council meeting last week.

The possibility of a no-fly zone in Syria -- where a US-led coalition is striking at Islamic State jihadists -- has come up intermittently since 2012, but never has been embraced by the administration of President Barack Obama.

"No fooling. That’s what the top of the hour news said."

Prudent policy.

But I don't think we should be operating in the same theater...

That zone would quickly become saturated with Muslim terrorists hiding behind women and children. It’s their modus operandi.

Gee, it seems like Yesterday when there was no decision on fighting ISIS (The J.V. Team) as they were marching across the Syrian Border to infect, invade, conquer the entire Middle East.

I guess none of the Administration's Serfs mentioned to Lord Obama that an Enemy who is entrenched is must more difficult to defeat than one that is wide open in the middle of a Desert.

Anyone remember the retreating Iraqi Army leaving Kuwait back in 1991?
Oh that's right, (Black so called Republican) Colon Powell didn't think it looked good to annihilate our Enemy and Bush 41 went right along.

Franklin Graham said Wednesday, September 30, in interview with Newsmax....

......." Russian air strikes help save Syrian Christians from a massacre by the Islamists"....."You understand that the Syrian government for their good and for their bad over the history of this country, they have protected Christians, they have protected minorities from the Islamists.".... "If the government of Syria and its institutions were to fail, there would be a bloodbath of Christians,".. Graham said. ....."There were would be tens and tens of thousands of Christians murdered and slaughtered and on top of that you would have hundreds of thousands of more refugees pouring into Europe......"So Russia right now, I see their presence as helping to save the lives of Christians."

There are still some great war fighters , just under the ‘political’ levels of command . Active duty and recently ‘retired’ .Many many many . Men and women of great honor , dignity , and strong patriotism . Men and women whose character has been shaped under fire , not the pencil pushing REMF’s , not the political appointees , and none are Obama nuzzling sycophants . These are the real leaders we need ; not these sickening civilian leftist lawyers and professional politicians .

I agree there are a few warfighters. They get weeded out as quickly as the system allows. But I don’t know of any military officers, at any level, that I would trust to be a ruling dictatorship junta. Living on base, that’s what it would be like.

And the basic problem remains. If you cannot win in a vote, and you seize power, then you cannot remain in power without repression. And if you could win that vote, you wouldn’t need the coup in the first place. Military coups are not a path to freedom.

Well Erdogan is fit to be tied, backed himself in a corner and he's not a happy man by any means.

Turkey has become an accessory ‘to the ISIS terrorist movement’, which is why, despite the US getting their pants in a knot, Putin bombed what was presumed to be the good guys when in fact they were taken over by terrorist's for the most part....the so called New Syrian army is actually ‘resting’ in Europe as refugees.

Putin placed “infiltrators” in the terrorists groups long ago to see where they were...where operating and all the “other” strategic place-cards he'd need when he went in... Putins not called a master strategist by 'our' military leaders for nothing....he wasn't about to get bogged down like happened in Afghanistan and Chechnya......been there done that....

Putin fascinates me because he's so unpredictable....and there are many of our "modern" military leaders who watch him as well with the same intrigue....they know he's not operating according to the die hard cold war mindsets....Until we get the likes of those like McCain and the other cold war mindsets in rest homes we'll never stop Putin...

I've had some pretty interesting conversations with some of the military minds...and the better ones get very frustrated with the old war horses because Putin is not operating at all in that mindset...which is why nobody's stopping him from doing what he wants.

"which is why nobody's stopping him from doing what he wants. "

Surely part of his calculus is a petulant POTUS who would do something stupid to save face.

Risky business.

Putin ordered the deployment of ‘Spetsnaz’ units to root out and ‘eliminate packs of fleeing jihadis’.....the Spetsnaz is the elite of the elite in Russia’s army.... significant because many of the men have a deep hatred of jihadis....
These guys are experts in ‘hand to hand contact’ and deadly.....they took out over 100 Jihadi “Leaders” in one conflict....you’ll never see them coming.....They are actually “farmed out” to other nations for special missions.

I did a bit of research on Spetsnaz sometime back.......you do not want to tangle with them under any circumstances. The only rules of engagement are the ones they make...period...and this generally means getting the job done by whatever means is necessary.

Those who know about Spetsnaz, when heard Putin called them out, said “This is now the end of ISIS’.....they be running!

...”Risky business”...

It always is...

...unfortunately so much of the reality of war is smoothered by propaganda, and as Obama does do, keeping the actual ‘political’ facts of the wars from our people here. In many ways our media’s not much different then Russia’s anymore.

Swedens been five or more days now in violent Refugee riots from burning cars to breaking and destroying stores etc. yet hardly a mention in our news in order not to incite people these refugees are bad news wherever they go. There’s a real media blackout in Europe as well...

So what we do get has to be dug for and much reading and listening. If done you can get a pretty good idea what’s really going on....but does take time.
