You know, my father knew Barry in passing. Being activist Republicans in Arizona back then, you hardly could not.

I can still see that AUH2O bumper sticker on the ‘59 Chrysler.

Never thought about how amazing it was to grow up Republican in Arizona in the 1960s.

My sister was a Goldwater girl at the convention in ‘64. Couldn’t tell by her now, she’s Hillary’s soul sister.

The one thing we all knew about Goldwater is that he said what he thought. There was no ulterior motive, what you saw was what you got.

He had no pretense, and no will to power except to do what was right.

Think about that.

Not being a Brit, I'd imagine not swearing loyalty to the Queen is a bit like an American politician who wouldn't swear allegiance to our flag.

The Queen and the American Flag are just symbols, acting as proxy for national loyalty.

And, for those of you who fret over the Queen being just a woman... no better than anyone else... etc. etc., I remind you that taken at face value, our flag is just cloth stitched together in a pretty sequence of stars and stripes.

"....a fraud who says her genetics qualify her to rule over others."

We have an unqualified president who rules over us a million times more than the eminently qualified Queen "rules" over her countrymen.

And who precisely is to blame for that?

The idiots who punched the card.

That can be reversed by the same method.

Getting rid of a monarch is a bit more difficult.

That’s the difference.

Get back to me in a hundred years when the British people themselves decide to abolish the monarchy.....not a California hotshot still fighting the War of 1775.

Once we were “British people”. Recall we already did that.

Some people just couldn’t get with the program. But of course, over the last 240 years they’ve managed to neuter their monarch for the most part.

They could still go the distance, if they had the stones.

I'm an Australian born joint Australian/British citizen (I was entitled to British citizenship by descent from my mother and I've taken it) who is a staunch Monarchist who has met the Queen, and is friends with two of her sons (I went to school with the Prince of Wales, and served alongside the Duke of York). I even attended the recent Royal Wedding. I doubt you'd find a stronger supporter of the British Constitutional Monarchy on Freerepublic.

And I honestly have no problem with Mr Corbyn in this case (although I have a lot of other issues with him because he's a rampant socialist and I think some of his ideas on British defence are actually very dangerous). It is not uncommon for a new Privy Counsellor to take a while to attend their first meeting, and as long as it is because of a prior engagement or an important engagement that's perfectly acceptable - and I have no real reason to doubt that is the case - if he had decided that he was planning to never attend, he could say so without consequences. There are also procedures in place to allow a person to accept the position without attending and if he chooses to take advantage of those, that is his right. If he was asking for special treatment, for the rules to be changed for him, I'd object, but he isn't.

One of the strengths of the British Constitutional Monarchy is that a person living under it is allowed to disagree with it, and even to work to change it, as long as they do so through peaceful, constitutional means. Mr Corbyn has shown no signs that he has any intention of doing other than this.

Thank you.

I really had no idea of the protocols and procedures.
If the citizens of the UK have no problem with Corbyns action, who am I to disagree.

So you have rubbed elbows, so to speak, with the Royal Family.
I have read that Diana’s boys are pretty down to earth young men. Especially considering they were raised in the bubble the Queen and her family live in.
I’m not sure about Charles, only know what I read in the news, but much of that was negative due to the divorce and Diana’s death.

Anyway, I hope the Royal Family continues.
I am a bit like Churchill, Britain without a monarch is unthinkable.
I abhor needless change.
There are some things in this world that should not change.

They put lights in Wrigley field, so leave the British monarchy alone.

Words to live by.

It goes without saying that this country needs a man like Barry Goldwater again.
