Wishful Thinking? Andrea Mitchell Asks Ben Carson Can Republican Party 'Survive?'
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Who is taking more glee from the current Republican turmoil over the selection of the next Speaker: Democrats or the MSM—or do I repeat myself?

Today's Morning Joe featured a clip from Andrea Mitchell's interview of Ben Carson in which she asked: "what does this just say about the Republican brand and the Republican party. Can it survive after this kind of chaos?" Wishful thinking, Andrea?

Te real question is whether the GOP can survive without this shakeup. Democrats, on the other hand, are stuck in Hugo Chavez communist mode with aging cadre on a long march to self destruction.

The answer is yes on her part, however, the question does have some credence for legitimacy.

I guess the GOP can’t survive unless they nominate an anti-American, lying crook for president. Being anti-American is right up there with homosexuality as the “next big thing.”

No it is a very valid question if the GOP can survived the rabid defiant stupidity of its leaders. Carson, Trump, Cruz are the people trying to save it.

I love reading about how Dem voters think the GOP is fading away. The GOP now has complete legislative and executive control of 24 states compared to 7 for the Dems. Nationwide they have 70% of all state legislatures, and 100% of the federal legislature. The Dems have lost more ground in the past 6 years than at any other time in modern history.

They control ONE branch of the federal government, and are likely to lose that as well in 2016. They have been so weakened over the past 6 years that they can’t even field a legitimate Presidential candidate in 2016. The frontrunner is viewed as a “liar” by 60% of the voters. She is so out of touch and disliked by voters that a geriatric socialist is actually beating her in early voting state polls. THe other 3 candidates are so unknown that even registered Dems would be hard pressed to tell you their names, let alone their positions. The GOP has some weak candidates this time around, but they also have 17 people running. The top two are both beating Hillary in head to head match ups, and as the race progresses (if she isn’t indicted) more will surge past her. Sorry, but the party on the ropes in 2016 isn’t the GOP.

The republican party is where the action is. It is where the next generation of leaders is being tested. The democrat party is practically dead. It has no depth at the state level. People are fleeing blue states to join red states, which will swing political power to red states. It can only offer 70 year old candidates. Once the boomers are gone the democrat party will only be a regional party.

This is a fight between the citizens who expect their representatives to represent them and The Cheap Labor Express who has dominated and bought off most of the elected GOP.

There really is the possibility at the end of this that the GOP still as donors, but not voters.

What a crazy question, can the GOP survive.

In spite of Obama winning two elections, the GOP has gained a lot of strength in the Obama era. The GOP controls both houses of Congress. 31 states have Republican governors. Something close to 2/3 of state legislatures are controlled by Republicans.

While there’s turmoil in Washington, DC, and on the presidential campaign trail, the Republican party has gained quite a bit at the state and local level, during the Obama years.

One of Obama’s legacies is that he leaves behind a weakened Democrat party. And that will be true even if a Democrat win the 2016 presidential election.

But a liberal such as Andrea is just engaging in her liberal wishful thinkiing.

To paraphrase Abraham Lincoln, “A house divided against itself cannot stand.” I believe this Republican Party cannot endure, permanently half conservative and half establishment. I do not expect the party to be dissolved — I do not expect the house to fall — but I do expect it will cease to be divided. It will become all one thing or all the other. The question is which direction will it eventually move to, which “thing” will it become? There are days that I think that the conservative wing has a chance to move the party back towards its roots. And there are days when I expect the Republican Party to go the way of the Whigs.

It’s a valid question, but only if phrased correctly: “Can the GOPe/Dem-lite party survive in the face of actual conservatives?”

Let’s hope not. Americans need an actual differentiated choice, not “Dems with a D, or Dems with an R”.
